Try this simple science experiment at home!
Fill a shallow bowl with water and sprinkle ground black pepper across the surface. Next, add a small drop of washing-up liquid to your finger and gently touch the surface.
Watch as the pepper instantly moves away from the soap.
The pepper represents germs, and the soap breaks the surface tension of the water, pushing the ‘germs’ away. This simple experiment helps us understand why washing our hands with soap is so effective.
Activities like this encourage curiosity, observation and scientific thinking, all key skills we nurture at First Class Learning.
