Is your child going into Year 11 currently working at Grades 1–3 in GCSE Science?

If Science already feels overwhelming, please don’t feel you have to wait for the November mocks before getting them some support.

My Year 11 AQA Combined Science Foundation groups are specifically designed for students who need things slowed down, broken into manageable steps and explained clearly — without ever being made to feel like they should already know the answer.

Many of the Foundation students I teach struggle with confidence, processing information, dyslexia, ADHD or simply knowing what an exam question is actually asking them to do.

And giving those students more stuff to revise often isn’t the answer.

They need guidance, reassurance, repetition and someone beside them showing them HOW to tackle it.

That’s exactly how my groups work.

In our sessions we:

I’m excited to say that 49 of my GCSE Science group places have now been filled for September! 🎉

A huge thank you to all the families who have already booked their child’s place. I can’t wait to welcome both new and returning students next month!

And that’s a wrap for another school year!

It’s officially time to mute the microphone, close the laptop and unmute holiday mode…until September! 😎

Thank you to all my students and parents for another brilliant year. It’s been a pleasure helping so many students grow in confidence, tackle those tricky science topics and prepare for their exams. I hope you all have a fantastic summer and enjoy a well-earned break. Parents - you’ve definitely earned one too! 😅

This Year 9 student started the year working at Developing in Science and has now finished the year at Exceeding! 🎉

Progress like this doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from turning up each week, asking questions, building confidence and practising the skills needed to succeed.

For anyone wondering, many schools use a Year 9 tracking system before GCSE grades:

⭐ Developing = working below the expected standard
⭐ Meeting = working at the expected standard
⭐ Exceeding = working above the expected standard

Seeing a student move from Developing to Exceeding over the course of the year is something to be really proud of! 👏

This student started Year 11 in September lacking confidence in Science and never really saw it as one of her strongest subjects.

But over the past year, they showed up week after week, tackled the tricky topics, worked through countless exam questions and kept going even when things felt difficult 💪

Now the exams are finished, the revision guides have been packed away and all that’s left to do is keep everything crossed for August 🤞🍀

One of the things I hear most often from parents is:

“My child just isn’t a science person.”

Success in GCSE Science isn’t about being naturally gifted. It’s about building knowledge step-by-step, learning how the exam works and developing the confidence to give questions a go 👌🏼

Whatever happens on results day, I’m incredibly proud of all my Year 11 students this year. They worked so hard through the mocks, revision sessions, Sunday boosters and exam season, and now they’ve earned a well-deserved break ☀️

Mocks are almost done for year 10 and summer is nearly here! 🎉

We’ve only got two more Year 10 sessions in July before we break up for the summer holidays ☀️

Over the past few months we’ve spent a huge amount of time preparing for mock exams, improving exam technique and building confidence with GCSE questions. Most students have now completed their mocks or are just finishing them off 👏

So for our final sessions of the year, we’re turning our attention towards Year 11 and getting a head start on some key Biology content 💪📚

This month we’re covering:

🧠 Homeostasis past exam questions
📝 Applying knowledge to exam-style questions
⏱️ Reaction Times Required Practical
📊 Analysing practical results and evaluation questions

The goal now isn’t just to finish Year 10 strong - it’s to make the start of Year 11 feel much less overwhelming in September 😅

Then it’s time to switch off, enjoy the sunshine, have a break from revision! ☀️🏖️ At least until September… 😅

☀️ Summer is nearly here… but we’ve still got two more sessions in July to go before we break up! ☀️

This July in the Year 9 GCSE Transition Group, we’re finishing off our final Physics topic of the year - Forces 💪⚡

We started Forces at the end of June, and over our final two sessions we’ll be bringing everything together and building confidence with exam-style questions ready for Year 10.

This month we’re covering:

📏 Elasticity and spring extension
📈 Interpreting force graphs
📝 Forces past exam questions

Year 9 has absolutely flown by! 🤯

The aim of this group has always been to bridge the gap between KS3 and GCSE Science, and it’s been fantastic seeing students grow in confidence with GCSE-style content already 💪

Then it’s time for a well-earned summer break🍦😎

Tomorrow is Physics Paper 2… the final GCSE Science exam!!

After tomorrow, that’s SIX out of SIX science papers done. No more Biology. No more Chemistry. No more Physics. You made it 🙏

A few last-minute reminders:

⚡ Learn your equations and make sure you can rearrange them.
⚡ Show every step of your calculations - method marks are your friend.
⚡ Read graph questions carefully and always check the units.
⚡ For 6-markers, write in full sentences and use key scientific vocabulary.
⚡ If you get stuck, move on and come back later - don’t let one question steal your time.

Physics Paper 2 topics include:
📌 Forces and motion
📌 Waves
📌 Magnetism and electromagnets

Most importantly, trust yourself! You’ve spent years working towards this moment. You’ve sat mocks, completed homework, revised topics you hated, tackled past papers and kept going even when it felt tough…💪

CHEMISTRY PAPER 2 IS TOMORROW! 🧪

Right, Year 11… one final chemistry push!

Before you close your books tonight, make sure you can answer these common Paper 2 favourites:

⚡ Rates of Reaction
Remember how temperature, concentration, pressure and surface area affect collision frequency. Don’t just say “it reacts faster” - explain that there are more frequent successful collisions.

🛢️ Crude Oil & Fuels
Know the difference between fractional distillation and cracking. If you see a question on cracking, remember it produces shorter hydrocarbons and alkenes which are more useful and in higher demand.

🌍 Earth’s Resources
Learn the stages of treating wastewater and potable water. If asked to evaluate recycling or sustainability, always give both advantages and disadvantages.

🌫️ The Atmosphere
Know how Earth’s atmosphere has changed over time and the evidence for this. Questions often focus on volcanic activity, photosynthetic algae and the increase in oxygen levels.

🧪 Chemical Analysis
Revise chromatography, flame tests and gas tests. Make sure you know:

📌 Hydrogen = squeaky pop
📌 Oxygen = relights glowing splint
📌 Carbon dioxide = limewater goes cloudy
📌 Chlorine = bleaches damp litmus paper

📈 Required Practicals
Don’t just memorise the method. Learn:
✔ Why each step is done
✔ Variables to control
✔ Sources of error
✔ How accuracy could be improved

⭐ Last-minute exam tips:
• Read every question twice before answering.
• Underline command words.
• Use the number of marks as a guide for how much to write.
• Show every step in calculations.
• Include units.
• If stuck, write something - blank answers never get marks.

GOOD LUCK FOR BIOLOGY PAPER 2 TOMORROW! 🧬

Before you head into the exam, here are some of the marks that students lose every single year…

✅ Inheritance questions
If you’re asked why a characteristic is passed on, remember:
genes are sections of DNA, found on chromosomes, inherited from parents. Those key words are often worth marks.

✅ Genetic diagrams
Don’t forget to write:
* Parent genotypes
* Gametes
* Punnett square
* Offspring genotypes
* Probability

The examiner wants the full method, not just the answer.

✅ Natural selection and evolution
The magic words:
variation → survival advantage → reproduce → pass on alleles → population changes over generations.

✅ Ecology calculations
Check whether the question wants:
* Percentage change
* Mean
* Population estimate

And ALWAYS include units.

✅ Required practicals
If you’re evaluating a method, don’t just say:
❌ “Repeat it.”
Instead explain:
✅ “Repeat it and calculate a mean to identify anomalies and improve reliability.”

And my biggest tip…Read the question carefully!

📌 If it says “Using information from the graph…” then use the graph.

📌 If it says “Give two ways…” then give two.

📌 If it says “Explain…” then don’t just describe.
