We've been finding and identifying bugs in our garden, and found a devil's coach horse which we learned about in our ID book 🐛
Little Bears Forest Preschool
Did you know that this type of drawing is called a cephalopod - a child's first human representation when it comes to drawing people. The head and face is the main focus, with the arms and legs usually coming from the head!
Children move from random lines and lots of movement (often described as a scribble) to a representation of someone who is important to them.
Children go through these processes on their journey to writing and making more meaningful marks and representations in their drawings. As they gain more muscle control in their fingers and hands these skills develop during a child's vital early years.
Listen carefully and give your child time to finish talking. Take turns to speak. Your child might need up to 10 seconds to think and respond.
Today we look at schemas and what they are 👇
If your child says something incorrectly, say it back the right way, e.g. “Goggy bited it.” “Yes, the dog bit it, didn’t he?”
Play is essential and the best way for children to learn about the world around them. The EYFS was updated to ensure that children in nurseries and preschools can have more play based experiences with engaged practitioners to support them; removing them from unnecessary paperwork or tick lists.
We love to play and explore at Little Bears. We follow the children's needs and interests and have lots of child initiated experiences 😊

It's harvest time and we have been picking our ready vegetables and enjoyed sweet, crunchy carrots for our snack today which we grew from seed 🥕
You may have noticed our new addition out the front, so here is a sneak peek inside 👀
There are books you can take/borrow, information leaflets, second hand uniform and shoes so if you'd like to take a look at what's inside just ask at drop off or pick up time 😊
As autumn approaches we've been digging up our potatoes and looking at conkers this week! 🍂
To end our week we've had the watercolour palletes out for experimentation and creativity. With the sun we have also been noticing shadows and some children drew around the shadow of a dinosaur toy 🦖
In another area of the garden, there was a lot of construction using the pipes and wooden blocks to create a water slide.
A fun first week back in the sun ☀️😌
🌞 This week the weather will be very hot, so please remember to apply suncream before your child starts preschool and make sure they have a sun hat, water bottle and suncream that we can reapply 🌞
Tonight Faye has read us a lovely story called Goat goes to playgroup, by Julia Donaldson ❤️ 🐐
We're back to preschool today! The children have been talking about how tall they are now so we have been measuring and comparing, climbing trees, cooking in the mud kitchen, drawing and playing with herbs and play dough. It's lovely to be back with our Little Bears and we are looking forward to welcoming our new children next week 🌞 🐻

Today we celebrated Father Bear's birthday, observed wildlife in the garden and some of us made fairy wings!
At Little Bears we have lots of imaginative role play and socialisation, it's wonderful to see and help develop 😍
Today looked a little like this 👇
Some children read The Paper Dolls and worked together to make a paper doll chain, others did threading, cutting and sticking. We also had fun in a den playing and chatting together! 👪
Today is the summer solstice, and we have been basking in the sun and giving it our thanks! We've said thank you for helping our vegetables grow and for giving us light and warmth.
Some of the children joined in a sun salutation routine, we sang sunny songs and even made flower crowns 👑
"I found love hearts" 💓
We used this as an opportunity to think and talk about what we are grateful and thankful for, especially today for the summer solstice. "I love my friend and my mummy and we are happy". Love and kindness in all it's glory 😍
Here's some progress pictures of our allotment! Our peas are coming along as well as juicy strawberries, courgettes, cucumbers and raspberries!! The children have thoroughly enjoyed looking after our allotment and seeing it transform week-to-week.
Frozen watermelon for snack today went down a treat! Try it at home because the children loved it and helped to keep us cool today 🍉

This morning the children have been mixing, pouring, stirring and experimenting 🍊🍋🌼
We have also been sitting and watching the birds in the garden, where we've had lots of baby starlings!
Today has seen much creativity and expression, being inspired by our natural world! 🌱🕷
The past couple of days there's been lots of exploration and experimentation. Some children painted with natural paintbrushes making beautiful marks, and we even made a collage out of our paintings 🖼
We have been planting and growing in our new allotment area, with lots of fruits and vegetables to grow for our snack! 🌱
Last week we celebrated the King's Coronation with dancing and games and Meg came in to play her violin for us 🎻 🎶
Today we had a bear day and enjoyed a teddy bear picnic at snack time with marmalade sandwiches, read lots of bear stories and even did some happy breathing with our teddies. Charlotte made some delicious cakes for the teachers, too! 🐻
