A new book by Senior Lecturer in Media and Film Studies, Dr Stephen Harper, has just been published.
The book is entitled Screening Bosnia: Geopolitics, Gender and Nationalism in Film and Television Images of the 1992-95 War.
“I’m pleased that this book, which has been several years in the making, is appearing now, on the 25th anniversary of the outbreak of the Bosnian war” says Stephen. "Although the Bosnian war occurred a quarter of a century ago, it holds many lessons for us today as we face a very horrible and internationally perilous situation in Syria. In the book I aimed for accessibility, providing readers with a clear account of the Bosnian war, its coverage in the news media, and its representation across film and television drama. The book also challenges accepted wisdom, arguing that the Western news media and many films have presented audiences with a biased account of the war that has often come close to propaganda".
The book is available now from Bloomsbury.
