Discord gives young people a space to chat, play games and join communities based around shared interests.

While it can be a positive way to connect with friends, there are also important risks for parents and educators to understand.

Our latest guide highlights:
• Contact with strangers
• Harassment and harmful behaviour
• Exposure to inappropriate content
• Gaming and socialising becoming a distraction
• Spending and subscription risks

It also shares practical advice on using Discord’s Family Centre, reviewing privacy and spending settings, talking openly about suspicious behaviour and agreeing clear expectations around screen time.

💬 YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS! 💬

A huge THANK YOU to all the parents and carers who took the time to give us feedback on our Summer Playschemes. ❤️

We really appreciate you sharing what you loved, what worked well, and also the things you felt we could improve. Your feedback helps us to continue developing our playschemes and make sure we are providing the best possible experience for the children.

🌟 Some of the things you told us you loved:
✔️ The variety of activities and themed days
✔️ The coaches, storytellers and visiting activity providers
✔️ Water play, cooking, crafts and outdoor activities
✔️ The friendly and caring staff
✔️ Easy booking process
✔️ Children making new friends and having fun

🔎 And what are we looking at improving?

We have listened carefully to your suggestions and will be looking at ways we can:

➡️ Continue to improve our communication and information for parents, including regular photos of activities
➡️ Review the balance and variety of activities across the summer
➡️ Look at ways to make drop-off and collection as smooth as possible
➡️ Continue to encourage and reward positive behaviour alongside addressing unwanted behaviour
➡️ Review your other suggestions and see what changes we can realistically make for future holidays

Not every suggestion will be possible, but every piece of feedback will be considered. Some changes may take a little time, but we want you to know that your comments have been heard.

Thank you for helping us make FWAS Summer Playschemes even better! 💙

We would like to say a huge **THANK YOU** to all the families who have joined us this summer at both of our Summer Playschemes — both our new families and all the familiar faces who continue to come back to us year after year. ❤️

We also need to say a **HUGE thank you to all of our amazing staff**, who have worked across one of the hottest summers we have had! 🥵☀️ Without you, we simply could not offer such a fun, varied and exciting plan of activities every single day. Your hard work, energy and enthusiasm have been amazing! 👏

We would also like to give a big **shoutout to all of the coaches and workshop providers** who have joined us for sessions throughout the summer. ⚽🎨🏹👩‍🍳🎭 You have helped us give the children some fantastic experiences and created lots of memories that they will take away with them.

More of our Portsmouth 100 celebrations this week have included making thank you cards to post to people in the community including library workers, police stations, care home staff and museums of Portsmouth to say a big Thankyou for helping to shape Portsmouth in to the wonderful city we see today. A group if us will be posting the cards off next week once the paints have dried.
We also have a visit from Preacher The Storyteller who took us on a journey through Portsmouths history and thinking about what we love about living in Portsmouth and why we are a part of Portsmouths future !
We have designed our own Lions for a lion trail like we can see across the city aswell !

Not sure whether your child qualifies for free school meals? It's worth checking.

Recent changes to eligibility mean more families receiving Universal Credit may now be entitled.

The online eligibility checker only takes a few minutes to complete, and checking now could help avoid a last-minute rush before September.

Find out if you're eligible today ➡️ https://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/services/schools-and-learning/schools/school-meals/
