This October, schools across the UK will be joining children around the world to celebrate organised by the walking charity Living Streets

The month-long campaign celebrates the benefits of walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting to school, helping children stay active, connect with their community and enjoy the journey to school.

Whether your child walks, wheels, cycles or scoots to school every day or only occasionally, everyone can take part.

We are grateful to the outreach team (Hannah Pack and Aarthee Parimelalaghan) from Somerville College - the University of Oxford, for coming into school to speak to a group of Year 10s on Wednesday 30th September. The session covered university in general but also made pupils aware of the specific opportunities and unique teaching style offered by Oxford and Cambridge. Our visitors explained the different reasons why someone might opt for university and explored academic teaching, social life, societies and student finance. There are students at the University of Oxford at the moment who attended Springfield and we hope that all who attended were encouraged to believe in themselves and aim high.

A massive well done to the Year 9 Boys' Football team, as we beat Ryde Lift in the 1st round of the Hampshire Cup. We had a lovely day out on the Isle of Wight, with the boys putting together a real team performance. It was a close game, but with goals from Jordan (9E) and Arthur (9L), it resulted in a 2-1 win. It was a great performance where every player tried their best and worked hard. A special mention goes to Eli (9E) for his player of match performance. Well done all!
