UPRacing IC

UK 2022 has come to an end and UPRacing has accomplished its 14th year of Formula Student.

This year, the IC team has acheived its highest ever score of 270.3 placing us 8th overall in Concept Class!

The team achieved its highest score ever in design coming joint 3rd with UPRacing Electric with a score of 110 points! We acheived our highest score ever of 83.6 points in the Business Plan Presentation and 55 points in cost. The team also achieved 21.7 points and 7th place in the Lap Time Simulation event (well done Farooq Al Safi). The team is incredibly pleased with the results and glad that the hard work paid off!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to the supporters and alumni that gave us advice and encouragement over the year.

A huge thank you to all the section heads and team members for all their hard work. A huge thank you to William Grover, my Vice Team Lead and Rory Sutherland, the Chief Engineer for all the support! We wish next year's team all the best in the future competitions and we hope their hard work leads to a Formula Student Class entry.

In one of our sessions, just before the Christmas break, the Design team members presented their preliminary research of their parts/systems they are working on.

These presentations were a great opportunity for everyone to understand other members responsibilities in the team, and to learn more details about the car overall.

With recruitment completed for this year we are delighted to welcome all the new members onto the team! Yesterday we had our annual scavenger hunt around Portsmouth. 4 teams made their way around the city for just over two hours earning as many points as they could at various locations. All teams completely smashed it and definitely earned their prizes of screwdrivers and wooden spoons.

Earlier this week we had a talk presented by Russell Poynter- Brown from ‘On Pole’ about high performance and improvement.

We rapidly learnt many fundamental aspects to what makes a team work and thrive. Some of which are often overlooked and will look to implement into the team and our future careers. We gained an understanding of how high performance teams operate and how they continue to achieve good results.

This talk was extremely interesting and has left us with some great ideas for the future.

Finally we would just like to thank Russell for taking the time to give us such an engaging and insightful talk and we look forward to applying what we’ve learnt into UP Racing.

A little throwback to July 2019. We were making some final adjustments and doing some final checks before going to compete in the endurance event.

With so many new members having joined UPR since our last full competition entry we look forward to the day they can experience the rush, excitement and motivation that comes with competing at Silverstone witnessing their design and engineering practices come to life.

Following a prolonged christmas break we are finally back! We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year!

After a couple of weeks full of exams (and some snow) we can now start the new term with clear heads. Fortunately the current COVID lockdown hasn’t stopped us getting back to work, with all of us moving over to Discord until we can resume in person sessions.

The good news this week is that we have received official confirmation that we are part of the competition as a concept team. So it is going to be a busy and exciting next few weeks to make sure we are heading in the right direction to be able to meet deadlines and do the best job possible.
