In the final week of STEM Club, the children took on an engineering challenge to design and build a boat from recycled materials that could float whilst holding a toy figure. ๐Ÿ›ฅ They explored different ideas, tested their designs, and showed great creativity and problem-solving skills throughout. The children demonstrated respect and perseverance, but most importantly, excellent teamwork as they supported each other and worked together. ๐Ÿฅฐ

This week, Year 2 had an exciting visit from Future Waters, one of the companies helping to build the new Havant Thicket reservoir. In the workshop, the children got the chance to build a prototype of their own dam out of clay, which was then tested to see if it could hold water. It is safe to say that we have some future engineers at Solent Infant School! ๐Ÿ‘

We have had 3 more exciting weeks of STEM Club where the children have:
โ™ฆ๏ธ become artists and mathematicians by fitting shapes together to create patterns and pictures
๐Ÿšง worked as engineers, using a range of construction materials to complete challenges
๐Ÿ”Ž investigated as scientists, taking part in hands-on experiments such as making rain clouds, dancing raisins and magic milk!

The children at STEM Club have shown great responsibility and curiosity, asking questions and making predictions. ๐Ÿ‘

Year 1 have been enjoying sculpting sunflowers out of clay, inspired by the work of Angela Schwer. The next step is to paint the sunflowers. ๐ŸŽจ

Year 1 have been busy interpreting tally charts and exploring pictograms on the laptops. They loved creating their own charts and discovering how we can use pictures to show information. ๐Ÿ‘

STEM Club was full of curious scientists this week as the children carried out three exciting experiments: making lava lamps, lemon volcanoes and Skittles rainbows ๐ŸŒˆ They showed great responsibility, which is our Value of the Month, and they were all very safe throughout all activities ๐Ÿ‘

We had a brilliant first session of STEM Club yesterday! The children collaborated to build a tower, testing different resources and shapes to create a strong base. Great teamwork and resilience all round!
