Students from the Salterns Trust Academy proudly represented Portsmouth at the D-Day commemorations in Caen, France from 5 to 6 June 2026.
In a moving ceremony attended by veterans, dignitaries and international guests, our students honoured those who served in the Second World War while strengthening the historic bond between Portsmouth and its twin city, Caen.
From powerful performances of God Save the King and La Marseillaise to the moving hymn O Valiant Heart, our students demonstrated exceptional professionalism, respect and musical excellence throughout.
A particularly poignant moment saw a bilingual recitation of Pourquoi ? in French and English, bringing together students from both nations in a shared act of remembrance and unity.
Beyond the ceremony, students had the honour of meeting the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth and the Mayor of Caen, celebrating the importance of international friendship, cultural exchange and remembrance.
This unforgettable experience highlighted the power of language learning, collaboration and global citizenship, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.

🌈 What is Pride Month? 🌈
June is known as Pride Month – a time to recognise and support LGBTQ+ people around the world.
Pride began as a way to stand up for fairness and equal rights, following important protests in 1969 that helped change attitudes and laws.
Today, Pride is about:
✨ Being proud of who you are
✨ Respecting and celebrating differences
✨ Raising awareness of the challenges LGBTQ+ people have faced – and still face
✨ Promoting equality and inclusion for everyone
You might see rainbow flags, parades, and events during this month. These are symbols of unity, diversity, and support.
At its heart, Pride is about a simple message: Everyone deserves to feel accepted, safe, and valued for who they are.

Last week, we were incredibly proud to celebrate our Year 8 and Year 9 students who graduated from this year of the Blue Skies Project, with a special ceremony held at the University of Portsmouth 🎓
Delivered by JETS, the programme has supported our students in developing essential life skills, exploring future career pathways, and gaining valuable real-world experience beyond the classroom.
Over the past year, we’ve seen our students grow in confidence, resilience, and ambition. They have formed new friendships, worked collaboratively, and stepped outside of their comfort zones — approaching every opportunity with curiosity, professionalism, and determination. 🌟
We would like to thank JETS and all partner organisations for their continued support in creating such meaningful opportunities for our students.
We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and look forward to seeing where their futures take them next.
