Today we said goodbye to Mrs Barnes who has been so much more than a teacher. For the past 14 years, she has inspired, encouraged and supported so many children at Springwood.

Thank you Mrs Barnes for the memories and the love you have given us all. You will so be missed. Now go and enjoy your next chapter.

24/06/2026

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for supporting the children's attendance at school over the last few days. I also appreciate the words of support, particularly from working parents.

A red weather warning for extreme heat has now been extended to the south coast. Therefore, if you wish to collect your child from 1:15pm today or tomorrow, this will be authorised. School will however remain open for those wishing for their children to stay.

In response to the increasing likelihood of heatwaves in England, public health recommendations focus on minimizing the health effects of hot weather.

Key measures include:
Stay hydrated: Drink fluids regularly throughout the day, especially when thirsty. If sweating heavily, consider rehydration drinks to replace lost electrolytes.
Cool down: Avoid the sun when it is strongest, typically between 11am and 3pm. Wear loose, light-colored clothing made from breathable materials and apply sunscreen regularly.
Protect vulnerable groups: Ensure that older adults, babies, young children, pregnant people, and those with underlying health conditions are aware of and follow actions to keep themselves safe.
Prepare for emergencies: If you live in a home that is more likely to overheat, consider modifications such as installing external shutters or awnings, internal blinds, or growing plants outside to shade south-facing windows.

Unfortunately, the Year 2 event will be cancelled on 25.6.26. If we are able to reschedule this, we will let you know.

If your child is remaining in school, please be reassured that their safety and wellbeing will be prioritised.

Just a reminder that school is closed for Inset day on 26.6.26.
