Read and grow is a group that helps to teach people how to read. Anybody is welcome to learn, including those who did not finish school. This project teaches people on a one to one basis and always at the speed of the learner. Usually within two 40 minute sessions our superstar learners are reading 10 letter sentences, and within 3 months superstar learners can read whole paragraphs, it really is that easy. We meet every Wednesday at the John Pound Centre from 3pm till 4pm and have friendly teaching volunteers who are students of the University of Portsmouth. Superstar learners come to us worried that they can't read, but we prove that they can from the first session. Superstar learners get a positive experience unlike the memory of school where we build on superstar learners reading ability each session, the progression is so quick - it is amazing.
