Read and Grow is a voluntary group teaching ex-offenders and those at risk of offending how to read.

Any donations are kindly appreciated so we can continue the work that we do. Bacs transfers often have issues as it is the reference number that differentiates Read and Grow Society from the hundreds of other society accounts at Nationwide Building Society. So we are Read and Grow Society ACCT 33333334 SORT 07 00 93 quoting ref 1223/708040878 - it is this reference number that then ensures the pay

At Read and Grow Society we are passionate about changing lives through teaching local people to read.

This year we have made sure we keep learners and teachers safe through PPE equipment and screens for our sessions.

Unfortunately, due the lockdown we have no choice but to postpone sessions until January 2021.

Please contact us if you know anyone who needs our support, we want to use the time in the run up to Christmas to do everything we can to encourage more people to learn to read.

Stay safe and see you soon!

Together we can change lives. 21/10/2020

Read and Grow now has a website: www.readandgrowsociety.org

We want to work with organisations to deliver literacy projects in house or through University Criminology departments across the UK, to help more people in 2020 and beyond..if you can Read, you can Grow!

Together we can change lives. Giving back through life-changing literacy.

‘The spirit of Portsea had been inspired by the long history of the strong, loyal and loving women who have held this community together over the years. It was commissioned by Portsmouth City Council in 2010 as the final public artwork for the John Pounds development. It is based on ideas developed with Portsea Action Group and was created with the involvement of members of the community by Pete Codling’

A special congratulations to one of our volunteers Evie, who has been offered the position as Police Constable for Hampshire! She began training yesterday and we wish her the best of luck!

One of our previous volunteers Evie has kindly left us a message after starting her new career:

I am now a few months into the job and loving it more and more with each shift, so much so that I am now applying for the regulars!

Read & Grow really helped me to develop my people skills and my ability to work with different individuals to achieve a successful aim. The confidence I grew each week through building a rapport with a range of people has definitely had a positive impact on my policing and has allowed me to grow such valuable skills that I use on every shift. Thank you so much for letting me be a fantastic part of this programme & I hope that the service continues to help individuals in the way that it does so brilliantly!

Another example of how read and grow has helped not just the learners, but the volunteers too!
