Southsea Nature Nursery

Southsea Nature Nursery “A nurturing, plastic-free nursery where play leads the way and nature inspires every day”. All whilst staying true to our learning through play ethos.

Southsea Nature Nursery is a session-run nursery for 2-4 year olds running from the the grounds at St Johns College Southsea, Portsmouth. We accept all Government Entitlement Funding and are open five days a week, term-time only. The nursery is owned and managed by Amber Dyer, a graduate in child education with over 20 years experience working in and managing ‘outstanding’ rated settings. In 2013 Amber set up the first Forest Schools toddler group in Portsmouth, she believes passionately in the concept of child-initiated play and outdoor learning. St Johns college, with its mature wooded areas, vegetable patches and raised flowerbeds offers a unique environment for children to experience the full benefits of playing and learning outdoors. The program Amber has created is informed by the principles of the Forest Schools movement and the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and Maria Montessori. The nursery has a free flowing environment where children can access indoor and outdoor play stations in all weathers as they choose. It is equipped with a variety of innovative play and learning equipment, created, wherever possible from natural or up cycled materials. The children will be encouraged to learn about the cultivation of plants and to grow and harvest food to eat, reduce their carbon footprint and learn about our planet.

Fergus has visited over 200 families and made so many wonderful memories along the way. ❤️

Thank you, Fergus, for being the best mascot ever!

There is something truly magical that happens when childhood is allowed to unfold slowly. Amazing moments of wonder, connection and joy fill each day. Mixed age groups learn together growing in confidence, independence and kindness to see where their learning takes them. Flowing freely through out the day taking moments of calm, to notice the small glimmers of magic and not rushing the natural rhythm of childhood.

At Nature Nursery we may add the sparkle to the magic, but the children lead the way. Play matters.
