The School-Aged Immunisations Team will be returning to Miltoncross Academy on Friday 27th November 2026 to provide the 2026 flu vaccination to students whose parents have given consent.

You must give either a YES ✅ or a NO ❎ to the SAI Team by Tuesday 24th November 2026.
Only students who have been given a YES will be given the vaccine.

We are pleased to share that the proof cards for our Years 7 and 11 school photos have arrived and have been handed out during tutor time this morning.

Please check in with your child this afternoon to find your unique order numbers. This also includes an individual pack for siblings who had photographs together, this will be given to the sibling in Year 11.

All information on how and where to order is in the packs. The closing date to get your order in is Tuesday 20th October 2026 so do please be quick.

Year 7 (Wellbeing): Exploring how to build resilience, learning that challenges and setbacks are key steps toward growth!

Year 8 (Wellbeing): Discovering strategies to overcome common barriers to physical exercise and keep active for better health.

Year 9 (Healthy Choices): Learning how to navigate public spaces safely, recognize when to leave risky situations, and find reliable support.

Year 10 & Year 11 Tier 2 (Healthy Choices): Examining the effects of illegal drugs, understanding addiction, and discussing practical harm reduction strategies.

For young people aged 11–16, catastrophic thinking ("What if I fail?", "What if everyone laughs at me?", "What if I end up with no friends?") is extremely common.

🧠 The Adolescent Brain: During secondary school, the amygdala (the brain's threat detector) is highly active, while the prefrontal cortex (responsible for logic and perspective) is still developing.

🫥 The Snowball Effect: Anxiety thrives on uncertainty. When a teen hears a "What if...", their brain treats the hypothetical scenario as an immediate, real-world danger.

🏅 The Goal: The goal isn't to force toxic positivity ("Everything will be fine!"), but to ground them in reality and rebuild their sense of agency.

Is your brain playing the "What If" game today? 🧠

"What if I mess up my presentation?"
"What if no one sits with me?"
"What if I get a bad grade?"

When anxious thoughts start sn*******ng, it feels like everything is going wrong all at once.

🔹 Tool One - Catch It:
Name the thought. Say to yourself: "My brain is trying to protect me, but it's predicting the future right now, not stating a fact."

🔹 Tool Two - Shrink It:
Ask yourself: "If the worst case happens, what is one tiny thing I can do next?"
(e.g., if you mess up a answer in class, you take a deep breath and drink water).

🔹 Tool Three - Balance It:
Create a "What If" counterbalance.
For every negative "What if...", ask one gentle counter-question:
"What if it actually goes okay?"
"What if people don't notice as much as I think?"
