As previously shared, Portsmouth SCITT is becoming Shape Futures SCITT! Our website and social media will gradually change over the coming weeks, but our new name is already appearing on Find teacher training and will appear on Apply when applications open tomorrow.

It’s still us! The same team, personal support and commitment to training great teachers, now under a new name.

Why Shape Futures SCITT?

Our new name has been chosen very deliberately.

It aligns closely with one of our Trust’s core messages: Shape Futures. For us, that phrase captures exactly what teacher training is about.

Our trainees are shaping their own futures as they enter the profession.

Our mentors, schools, link tutors, expert colleagues and wider partners all help to shape the teachers they become.

Those teachers, in turn, will help to shape the experiences, opportunities and futures of the children they teach.

And those children are all different too.

Different people. Different experiences. Different strengths. Different starting points. Different ambitions.

That idea of difference, individuality and belonging is also beginning to influence the visual identity we are developing for Shape Futures SCITT.

You may have noticed that we have not revealed our new logo just yet.

That is coming soon.

When we do, we will share more about the thinking behind the shapes, colours and design, and how they represent the many different people who make up our teacher training community.

SHAPE FUTURES SCITT

A new name.
The same commitment to developing exceptional teachers.

Our new identity reflects something we believe deeply: there is no single shape of a great teacher.

People come into teaching with different experiences, backgrounds, strengths, perspectives and ambitions.

And together, they shape brighter futures for children.

DIFFERENT SHAPES. BRIGHTER FUTURES. TOGETHER.

This new identity has been created with a great deal of thought about who we are, what we value and where we are heading next.

In August 2025, we lost one of the most skilled and resilient teachers we have had the pleasure of knowing and training.
The Teenage Cancer Trust provided great support to Ellie and meant a lot to both her and her family.

In her memory, Tom (who trained with Ellie and now teaches at Langstone Primary Academy) will be running the Great South Run to raise money for this incredible charity.

Our current trainees will be the last cohort training under the name, 'Portsmouth SCITT', as our name change announcement is coming next week!

Nothing will change about our high-quality course, our skilled team or the bespoke training we provide, but if you're applying to join us in September 2027, you will be looking for our new name!

Our new trainee teachers have completed their first week in our two training hubs and what a fantastic cohort we have!
They have already shown high levels of enthusiasm, professionalism and collaboration, and we can't wait to see them develop throughout this year!

It's that time of year again and we can't wait to welcome in our new trainees from tomorrow.
We are also thinking about our ECTs who will be getting ready to welcome new classes and start this new term as class teachers.

We're looking forward to another busy and exciting year at Portsmouth SCITT which will include a name change for us! Keep your eyes peeled for announcements very soon.

Today marks the last day with our current cohort of trainees and it has been a pleasure to work with every one of these new teachers.

We always say it's a privilege to be able to train the next generation of teachers and we can't wait to hear how everyone gets on as they move into their new roles in September.

Names matter.

They carry familiarity, consistency and trust, and we know that Portsmouth SCITT is a name many people recognise and value.

But our programme has grown. Our partnerships have developed. Our reach now extends beyond Portsmouth, and our offer is continuing to evolve.

That is why we are considering whether the time has come for a new name. One that better reflects who we are, where we work and the future of our teacher training partnership.
