On Monday 5 October, The Learning Place will be starting their Keeping Up with the Kids Maths course. This course will help parents and carers understand how children are taught maths in school today, explore ways to support learning at home, and refresh their own maths skills.

One of our local Initial Teacher Training providers has a new name.

Portsmouth SCITT is now Shape Futures SCITT.

The new name reflects the provider's work with schools and trainees across Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Hampshire and West Sussex, while continuing its commitment to developing outstanding teachers.

Why Shape Futures SCITT?

Our new name has been chosen very deliberately.

It aligns closely with one of our Trust’s core messages: Shape Futures. For us, that phrase captures exactly what teacher training is about.

Our trainees are shaping their own futures as they enter the profession.

Our mentors, schools, link tutors, expert colleagues and wider partners all help to shape the teachers they become.

Those teachers, in turn, will help to shape the experiences, opportunities and futures of the children they teach.

And those children are all different too.

Different people. Different experiences. Different strengths. Different starting points. Different ambitions.

That idea of difference, individuality and belonging is also beginning to influence the visual identity we are developing for Shape Futures SCITT.

You may have noticed that we have not revealed our new logo just yet.

That is coming soon.

When we do, we will share more about the thinking behind the shapes, colours and design, and how they represent the many different people who make up our teacher training community.
