This week the Prep School have enjoyed watching the hatching of grey partridge eggs. Their patience was rewarded when they came into school on Thursday morning to find many of the eggs had hatched overnight and the tiny chicks were cheeping away. At lunchtime they were ready to be moved into the brooder and are now starting to eat their first food.

Thank you to Incredible Eggs for enabling us to be part of a nationwide conservation project to boost the numbers of the beautiful grey partridge which has declined sharply in many areas of the country. Now they have hatched, the chicks will be returned for proper care prior to being released in the environment in a safe and managed way to help boost the numbers of this beautiful bird.

There was much excitement at the Prep School today when some very important eggs arrived. Year 6 proudly took delivery of some amazing grey partridge eggs and the girls are eagerly awaiting the first chick to emerge.

Thank you to Incredible Eggs for enabling us to be part of a nationwide conservation project to boost the numbers of the beautiful grey partridge which has declined sharply in many areas of the country. Once hatched, and the girls have witnessed their early lives, the chicks will be returned for proper care prior to being released in the environment in a safe and managed way to boost the numbers of this beautiful bird.

Led by our Head of Enrichment, Mr Oliver, Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Eastney Beach, bringing their Humanities and English learning to life through their topics on the local area and the seashore.

The afternoon began with a litter pick, as pupils worked together to help care for the coastline. They showed great responsibility and teamwork, gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting marine habitats and keeping our beaches clean.

Next, the girls took part in hands-on activities exploring coastal erosion. They designed and built sea defences to protect their sandcastles, testing whose structures could withstand the incoming tide. It was fantastic to see their creativity, problem-solving, and resilience as they adapted and improved their designs.

A scavenger hunt followed, with pupils searching for natural treasures including periwinkle shells, driftwood, crabs, and sea glass. This encouraged curiosity and careful observation, and there was great excitement at each new discovery.
Another highlight was the stone tower challenge, where pupils worked independently to build the tallest structure they could using stones. There was plenty of friendly competition and perseverance, with towers repeatedly rebuilt after toppling.

To finish the day, everyone enjoyed a well-earned ice cream on the beach while reflecting on everything they had learned and experienced.
