š„¢ Tapping rhythm sticks together is a great way for children to see, hear and feel the beat.
š„¢ We can use sticks for helping our children to develop their rhythmic awareness, which is a key communication, language and literacy skill.
š„¢ Handling rhythm sticks helps to develop our children's fine motor skills, as they grasp and manipulate the sticks to make a sound.
š„¢ Tapping a strong, steady beat on the sticks encourages children to focus on patterns and sequences, hear stressed syllables in words of songs or rhymes, develop their listening skills, and develop their hand-eye coordination.
Remember.......... This is more than just a pair of wooden spoons from the kitchen, more than just some cardboard tubes, more than just twigs from the garden.
Tap the beat..... with Boogie Mites!

It's THINKING THURSDAY! š§
Music stimulates the brain in a way that no other activity is seen to do. It's long been regarded as "the musician's advantage", a secret held by neuroscientists. But is it enough to simply listen to music every day? In short, no. We have to ACTIVELY engage, whether it's through singing the lyrics, creating or copying actions or movements, following a score, or playing an instrument - even in a simple way, such as shaking a shaker or tapping our rhythm sticks to the beat.
When we ACTIVELY engage with music, we are stimulating all areas of the brain, and releasing the neurotransmitter chemicals which enhance our mood, give us a sense of reward and motivate us.
The skills that we learn through active music-making have a positive effect on our cognitive ability and, therefore, can improve skills in other academic areas.
Actively engaging with music equips us with transferrable skills.
*With thanks to Bigger Better Brains for this wonderful Oliver Sacks, M.D. quote*

Does your child have trouble focusing on a task? Or perhaps some words are difficult for them to speak or understand?
As mothers and passionate teachers weāve been there! From experience, weāve found out how music brings our family together to engage in a fun activity. Dr Anita Collins, an award-winning educator, researcher and author in the field of brain development and music learning, also argues that early years music making facilitates brain development. š§
Since our Boogie Mites songs are catchy and interactive, it is easy for children to follow along. They will have fun and start to expand their attention span!
Have you sung our Ready for Spaghetti song yet, based on the works of children's author Michael Rosen? Or maybe encouraged your child to have a go at mimicking and following along to our Itchy Iguana, phonics-focused fun song, presented by professional storyteller Vij from ! š¶

š§ Shakers are great for helping our children to play, hear and feel a strong, steady beat.
š§ We can use shakers for helping our children to develop their rhythmic awareness, which is a key communication, language and literacy skill.
š§ Shakers are an effective way for children to experience keeping the beat in a kinaesthetic way. They can feel the motion of the contents, hear the stead beat as they shake, and - if you're using a clear container - see the contents move in time to the beat as they shake along.
š§ Keeping the beat encourages children to focus on patterns and sequences, hear stressed syllables in words of songs or rhymes, develop their listening skills, develop coordination and motor skills, increase fluidity of movement and body control, and develop their hand-eye coordination.
Remember.......... This is more than just a bottle, more than just a yogurt pot, more than just a plastic soup container.
Shake the beat..... with Boogie Mites!
