Meet Matilda! šŸ˜‡ Matilda has been completing work experience with us over the summer, and we’ve absolutely loved having her as part of the Next Gen team.

From the very beginning, we’ve seen so much work ethic, enthusiasm and dedication from Matilda, and she’s already got stuck into a huge variety of projects.

She’s been supporting the planning of our Next Gen Live event at the Guildhall, looking at our TikTok platform and video content, reviewing some of our delivery materials and helping us plan future blog content.

It’s been brilliant to see her take on new tasks, bring her own ideas and get involved across different areas of the organisation.

In September, Matilda will be heading off to study A Level Politics, A Level English Language and A Level PE, and we’re so proud to be able to continue working with and supporting her alongside her studies.

We love having Matilda as part of the team and can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes her!šŸ’›

Ruby will be bringing a fresh perspective and speaking to inspirational people across different industries, backgrounds and experiences, all with the aim of showing young people what’s possible.

Mentoring sessions aren’t always about sitting across from each other and talking, sometimes, they’re a session of exercise🄊

Lucas’ boxing sessions at Harbour School have shown us just how valuable movement can be for young people. Exercise can have such a positive impact on mental wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, release emotions and give young people a healthy outlet.

It’s a bit like the ā€œwalk and talkā€ method. Sometimes, when you’re moving and doing something together, natural conversations just happen without the pressure of sitting down and having a conversation.

Lucas’ boxing sessions give young people an outlet in a completely different way, whether that’s through having a distraction, building discipline, getting some movement in or simply having a positive space to focus on. And without always realising it, those natural conversations can start to happen too.

You don’t always know the impact something like this is having in the moment, but creating a space where a young person feels comfortable, can move, talk, laugh and just be themselves can go a long way.

It’s something we’ve seen the value in so much that it has led to a much bigger project for us, Next Gen Movement, where we’ll be able to offer a variety of sessions like these for the young people who need them most.

Sometimes mentoring doesn’t look like talking. Sometimes it looks like putting on a pair of boxing gloves and movingšŸ’Ŗ

Why Politely Rebelliousā„¢ļø?

We often talk about what it means to be Politely Rebellious, because our name is so much more than just a name. Politely Rebellious is all about challenging the norms, doing what is right for you and not simply following the crowd, but doing it in a respectful and law-abiding way.

Then there’s the word rebellious. To be rebellious means to resist or challenge the accepted way of doing things, often without consideration or care for others. We believe it’s important for young people to understand that challenging the norm isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but there’s a way of doing this.

Sometimes, doing what is right for you means being different. It means questioning things, setting boundaries, standing up for yourself and having the confidence to make your own choices. We want our young people to understand that there is a way of living a life that makes you happy while still being considerate, spreading kindness, respecting yourself & others.

All of our role models have a story of their own. They’ve experienced times where they have been rebellious, made mistakes or taken a different path. But they’ve also been able to learn, grow and change, becoming Politely Rebellious and creating lives they love.

That’s the message we want to spread.

We’re a Community Interest Company empowering the next generation, but that will never stop us spreading the Politely Rebellious message beyond the young people we work with.

Challenge the norms.
Be yourself.
Be kind.
Set boundaries.
Show respect.

And most importantly...
Be Politely RebelliousšŸ–¤

What does investing in youth-led change actually look like? For us, it’s been a year of growth, new opportunities & stronger foundations🟣 Blagrave Trust

With the support of Blagrave Trust, we’ve been able to strengthen our team, welcome Ruby as a Project Support Officer, continue our 1:1 mentoring and youth-led projects, create a dedicated space for young people and begin developing our biggest youth-led project yet. But importantly, this support has also reinforced our commitment to nurturing and amplifying ethnic minority leadership.

Representation matters. We want young people to see themselves reflected in positions of influence, leadership and opportunity, and to have the confidence and support to step into those spaces themselves.

From the work happening today to the leaders we’re helping to develop for tomorrow, we’re proud to be creating pathways for young people to take the lead and see what’s possible.

We’re incredibly grateful to Blagrave Trust for believing in our organisation and, most importantly, in the young people at the heart of itšŸ–¤

ā€œFor years, I knew I had something to give back. I just couldn’t work out how.ā€

Here Simon shares why becoming a Director at Politely Rebellious Next Gen CIC felt like the right fit, not because he had all the answers, but because he’d experienced many of the same challenges that some of the young people we work with face today.

It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes, the greatest impact comes from sharing your experiences and just being someone a young person can relate to.

We’re incredibly grateful to have Simon as part of the PRNG team and for the time, passion and opportunities he continues to invest in our organisation and, most importantly, our young peoplešŸ–¤
