If you’re visiting family or friends this Christmas, you might need to bring something with you for your baby to sleep in. For babies that usually sleep in a cot or Moses basket, a travel cot is a great option when travelling.
You might’ve noticed that the travel cot mattress feels thinner and harder than a regular cot. This is completely normal, so don’t be tempted to place folded blankets or a quilt under your baby to try to make them ‘more comfortable’ as this might cause your baby to become too hot.
Take a look at some more of our tips for using a travel cot this Christmas ⬇️
• Use a cot with a rigid and firm base
• The cot’s mattress should be firm, flat, and have a waterproof cover
• Don’t put extra padding, folded blankets, or quilts under your baby
• Do not place the cot next to a radiator or have a heat source, like a portable heater, directly aimed at your baby
• Keep away from blind cords or other hazards

Exercise is best if it's fun (then children don’t realise they are doing it).
To tempt them outside why not try some welly mud printing by walking in mud and looking at the imprints they've made in the mud or asking them to then walk onto a roll of paper and guess whose footprint is whose.
Or why not try our autumn treasure hunt (for older children you could give them points for the more difficult to find objects) and add in some early maths? There are also lots of autumnal outdoor ideas on the Woodland Trust website.

The Pre-School children learnt about feelings 👩🏽🤝👨🏿😃 😔 🥰😡 😢 😆 👫 They were asked open ended questions to get them thinking about how others feel and sharing their own thoughts and feelings with others.
The children also made up their own endings of the story using their imagination!! 💭

Whilst we understand it can be tempting to wrap your baby up to keep them warm while they sleep, we know that overheating increases the chances of SIDS and research shows that it’s better for babies to be cooler rather than too hot.
To reduce the risk of overheating, avoid using thick bedding and duvets and remove any outdoor clothing and hats when you are indoors. During the winter months, firmly tucked in sheets and blankets (not above shoulder height) or a well-fitted baby sleep bag are fine for babies to sleep in.
To help, we’ve put together some useful advice on safer sleep during the colder months: https://bit.ly/3DRPe92

📣 NEWS: We’re working with partners to investigate 111 cases of sudden onset liver inflammation (hepatitis) in children aged 10 and under across the UK. Information gathered through our investigations increasingly suggests that this rise in sudden onset hepatitis in children is linked to adenovirus infection. But we are thoroughly investigating other potential causes.
Our tech briefing gives more info on our investigation:https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1071116/acute-hepatitis-technical-briefing-1_3_.pdf
If your child develops the common mild symptoms of adenovirus infection like mild respiratory symptoms or diarrhoea, the chance of them developing hepatitis is extremely low. However, we’re advising parents & guardians to be alert to the signs of hepatitis (incl jaundice) & to contact a healthcare professional if they are concerned. Routine hygiene practices such as supervising children as they wash their hands and good respiratory hygiene help to reduce the spread of many common infections including adenovirus.
If your child is experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal infection such as vomiting and diarrhoea they should stay at home & not go back to school or nursery until 48 hours after the symptoms have stopped.
