August ✨🌿

A quiet summer with the children and ourselves having some time off. The children have enjoyed lots of hands-on, creative and imaginative experiences, giving them plenty of opportunities to learn, explore and develop through play. We have also said farewell to a few of our older children heading to School and Pre-School settings, they will be really missed here but we known they are prepared and ready for this next step. 📚

Painting & Creative Activities 🎨
We explored colour, mark-making and creativity through painting, encouraging the children to express their ideas and develop their fine motor skills. This supported Expressive Arts & Design and Physical Development.

Growing, Harvesting & Exploring Food 🍎
The children helped harvest our homegrown cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, potatoes and apples. They loved seeing where our food comes from and talking about growth, change and nature.
This supported Understanding the World, Communication & Language and Physical Development.

Apple Turnovers & Pies 🥧🍏
We used some of our apples to make delicious apple turnovers and pies! The children helped prepare ingredients, mix, measure and talk about the changes they could see. A lovely opportunity for developing Mathematics, Understanding the World, Physical Development and Communication & Language.

“What I Like” Activity 🥰
The children chose pictures and items that represented things they personally like and stuck them down to create their own individual creations. This encouraged them to make choices, talk about their interests and develop their sense of self, supporting Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Communication & Language and Physical Development.

Potion Making Tuff Tray🧪🌈
Our potion-making invitation encouraged lots of imaginative play! The children mixed, poured, scooped and experimented while creating their own magical potions. 🪄
This supported Expressive Arts & Design, Understanding the World, Physical Development and Communication & Language.

Number Car Tracks 🚗🔢
We combined cars and numbers to make learning fun! The children explored number recognition, counting and matching while developing their coordination and problem-solving skills. This supported Mathematics, Physical Development and Communication & Language.

Throughout all of these experiences, the children have been encouraged to explore, make choices, solve problems, communicate their ideas and learn through play. 🌟

The good news is that the is not just for primary school aged children and above, it is also for the little ones too! 👍📚😃
There is a mini challenge for babies and toddlers.
You get a collector's card and for each book you share, you and your little one will get stickers, with a special golden sticker once you have shared 6 books together!
So do sign up, there are lots of lovely board and picture books to borrow. 📚

June 🥔
We made some wonderful crafts in June, for our daddy’s we made shrinky key rings doing some mark making and a keepsake card where our older ones wrote their names or first letter. We also did an under the sea collage practising using our fine motor skills and getting messy! (Expressive Arts & Design, Literacy). The music shakers were such fun having choice to which colours and stickers were preference and what item to have inside to make the different noises (Personal, Social & Emotional). The potatoes from our vegetable patch were ready to dig up. Everyone enjoyed the surprise of how many and how big or little they were as each plant came to the surface then picking them up ready to be washed for lunch! (Understanding the World, Mathematics) We have had some explorative tuff tray set ups in the garden allowing lots of fine motor skills practice alongside the opportunity for sharing (Physical).

May 🦋
In May we let the butterflies free, counting them as they flew off, it’s been lovely seeing the lifecycle and something we will definitely be doing again (Understanding the World). The role play area had a change up to a ‘doctors surgery’ where lots of discussions during in play have happened about body parts, x-rays, doctors visits they have had and emotions. (Personal, Social & Emotional, Literacy). We did some baking where everyone helped use their motor skills and knowledge of counting and weighing to make biscuits to share at home with their families (Mathematics). Many different rotational toys have been out in the garden promoting sharing and role play discussions. (Communication & Language). A fun trip to the park was had on a lovely sunny day enabling opportunities for gross motor skill practice and collaborative play on some of the equipment. (Physical)
