In year 5, we have been using counters and known facts to help us add fractional numbers such as tenths and hundredths.
"Because I know that 2 + 5 = 7, I also know that 0.02 + 0.05 = 0.07"
"Because I know that 16 - 9 = 7, I also know that 0.16 - 0.09 = 0.07"
We are becoming excellent pattern-spotters and true maths magicians 🪄🪄🪄

The whole school were delighted to take part in yet another Guinness World Record attempt, linked to one of our favourite pastimes... reading! 📚
We joined the magnificent Frank Cottrell-Boyce to share his stories, discuss ideas for our own writing and then we all took part in reading together. We'll know if the record attempt was successful by the end of October... watch this space for updates! 📘📕📗📒📙

Due to a number of local events taking place across Portsmouth, including the Southsea Fireworks celebrations, we have decided to move Fernhurst Junior School's Open Evening for Year 2 parents.

We are delighted to invite you to join us on Wednesday 11th November 2026 for an opportunity to meet our staff, explore the school and discover more about life at Fernhurst.

We hope that changing the date will make it easier for families to attend and ensure everyone can enjoy a relaxed and welcoming evening with us. We look forward to meeting you and sharing what makes Fernhurst such a special place to learn and grow.

🚲Year 6 had a fantastic week taking part in Bikeability. The children worked hard to develop their cycling skills, road awareness, and confidence. We are so proud of their effort, perseverance, and mature attitude throughout the training. Well done, Year 6! 🌟
