This week, the children in Year 5 have started their new Geography unit- India. Their first lesson consisted of them creating a fact file on India, which they will add to each week. This week they used Atlases to label a blank map of India and find out facts about its population, land mass, cities and neighbouring countries.
As well as this, the children have been diving into the fascinating world of volume of shapes! It's been fantastic to see them really get hands-on with concrete resources to help them understand this new concept.
What was particularly lovely to witness was their engagement and enthusiasm throughout the week. They even set themselves an extra challenge: to build a cube with a volume of 1000cm³! I'm so impressed to share that, through great teamwork and dedication, they successfully achieved this. Well done, Year 5.

A selection of Year 3 and 4 pupils went to the Portsmouth School Games Cricket Festival at Goals. We had lots of fun practising our throwing, catching and batting skills. We especially loved the game of "Put out the fire" where we had to knock down the wickets in the middle of a circle.

In our science lessons this week, Y6 children have been attempting to answer a question, which is arguably the most important scientific question in existence... 'Which biscuit is best for dunking?'
We discussed what is meant by 'best' and worked in groups to make predictions, plan an investigation and consider variables and fair testing - before finally conducting the experiment and discussing results. Ask your child what their group discovered - did their prediction match their findings?

Year 4 have worked hard on their DT projects this half term. They have been combining new skills of sawing and using a hot glue gun, alongside planning and designing skills to create Greek chariots.

3J have been learning to exchange our 10s for 1s in maths ready to do the subtraction column method. We played a game where we had to exchange our 10 dienes for 1 dienes and get rid of them all. We loved the game and can't wait to put this new skill into practice.

This week in Year 5, the children completed their final swimming lesson for PE. They’ve thoroughly enjoyed improving their physical fitness through both walking and swimming each week, with the added excitement of catching the train for part of the journey! In addition to their competitive and fun swimming lesson this week, the children also took part in some Geography fieldwork. As they traveled to and from swimming, they observed and counted the litter along the way, discussing where they saw the most and reflecting on the impact of litter on our environment. Finally, the children have continued working on their Moving Toys project in Design Technology, finishing and refining their designs. It's been a week full of learning, fun, and hands-on experiences.
