Since coming back after the summer holidays, the children have been talking about the farms they visited and the different animals they saw. This sparked some lovely conversations as we talked about farms and farm animals, thinking about what we might see, hear and even smell when visiting a farm! 👀👂👃
We decided to bring a little bit of the farm into our garden. The children took our farm animals outside and explored getting them muddy, investigating what happened as the animals got covered in mud! 🐄🐖🐑 There was lots of excitement as the children handled the animals, explored the different textures and talked about what they could see and feel.
Once our farm animals were suitably muddy, we brought them inside to our tuff tray farm wash. The children enjoyed washing, scrubbing and rinsing the animals, helping them get clean again. 🧽💦
We even discovered the story 'Stuck in the Mud', all about a cow who gets stuck in the mud! 📖🐄 The children enjoyed making connections between the story and their own muddy farm experience.
It was wonderful to see the children sharing their experiences, developing their communication and language, imagination, sensory exploration and understanding of the world through this fun, hands-on farm adventure.
A little mud certainly created lots of opportunities for learning and fun! 🌱🐄💦
