Last Monday we had a great day celebrating Kurdish new year. The children came in dressed in traditional Kurdish outfits and wow they looked amazing. The staff were treated by parents to an amazing Kurdish feast. We were so lucky that our amazing Kurdish
BLA Choman was on hand to help us going above and beyond.

We had the best time celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. We loved seeing everyone dressed up as their favourite book characters. We even helped to set a Guinness world record with the largest reading lesson at Fratton Park. Here are just a few of the amazing costumes, please feel free to add any photos of your child dressed up as it’s almost impossible to get a photo of every child in the school, although Miss Murphy does try her best 😂
Plea from YR R,
Is there possibly any handy parents/guardians that could put together a few bits of Ikea furniture for the reception classes. Your help will be deeply appreciated and tea and biscuits will be on offer.

Juniper Hall update
Day 3
So it was our final day after another yummy breakfast and final day of making our lunches we went back to our dorms to pack everything up. We even stripped our own beds and put it in the laundry baskets. Not sure if there’ll be wanting to do that when they get home though grown ups 😂 We then got into our 3 groups for one last time.
Group 1 went off to do some bushcrafts. Again this included how to start a fire with flint and steel.
Group 2 and 3 went off to hike up a very muddy Box hill. The view started off very misty but eventually it cleared up and became a beautiful day. They tracked their route on their map and drew how each stop made them feel. Just look at the views.
Finally it was time to eat our lunches and head back to school.
We had such a fun time albeit very muddy and wet. Sorry grownups for the heap of washing you probably had afterwards.

Juniper Hall update
Day 2
After filling up on our yummy breakfast and making our packed lunches we split into our 3 groups and headed off to check our Mammal hotels. We were lucky enough to find 9 mice in total. It was amazing to see the little creatures up close and find out more information on them. Due to the terrible weather we went into the classrooms to do a spot of landscape painting using sponges and our fingers. We were so lucky that we had a beautiful albeit very rainy view out of our classroom window to paint. We then went back for our lunch that we prepared ourselves.
We then headed off for our afternoon activities.
Group 1 went off to explore habitats and try their hand at pond dipping. They found so many different water dwelling bugs such as water boatman’s, they’re so odd they swim on their backs, We also found the biggest water beetle. We also found some Roman snails in the woodland area. Did you know the romans brought them over to England to eat however they’re now a protected species? How cool is that!!! We also found some interesting types of mushroom. A chicken of the forest mushroom which has the taste and texture of chicken once cooked up! We also found a jelly ear mushroom which dries up then when it gets wet turns to a jelly consistency. Nature is so wild.
Group 2 and 3 went off to do some bushcraft. This included using flint and steel to make a fire. They also used their surroundings to make shelters. I wonder how well they’d hold up in that storm we had.
We ended the evening all together around the roaring campfire. We sang some fun camp songs and toasted marshmallows. The sky was so clear we could see so many stars, we could also see Jupiter and Saturn shining brightly. It was so lovely to reflect on all the fun we’d had the past two days. It was back to our dorms for showers and PJs and the sock curl trend had taken off in the girls dorms. Curly locks all round 😂

Juniper Hall update Day 1
Sorry it’s a bit late technical issues and one very tired Miss Murphy 😂
Once we arrived we had our lunch in the very fancy common rooms we then split into 3 groups ready for the days activities.
Group 1 climbed up box hill, we tracked our route using our own maps, took in the amazing views and did some bark rubbings too.
Group 2 went and explored some different habitats, first we looks for bugs in the woodland area, then we went and did a little bit of pond dipping to see what was lurking in the water. We then took our favourite bugs back in some water to explore them more closely through a microscope.
Group 3 went into the woods and did some bush craft. This included building shelters and learning how to make a fire.
The children had so much fun on day 1. Day 2/3 the children will all swap activities so they will all get a go at everything.
Day 2 will be uploaded in a short while.

On Thursday we will be having a change of menu for our Census day. It all looks so delicious so why not try our Carnival menu on Thursday!
We have been made aware from local schools of a pop-up that is appearing on Roblox, encouraging children to download an app called pollybuzz (or pollyfuzz in some spelling cases). The app seems quite simple where children are asked questions, and it generates an Artificial Intelligence 'friend' - this starts off quite innocently but then begins to show extreme content (including su***de, self-harm and po*******hy). It may be helpful to remind children about not clicking on pop-ups in games and to report anything that is worrying or inappropriate to a trusted adult.
Roblox has parental controls and instructions of how to put these on can be accessed via this link: Parental Controls Overview - Roblox Support .
Please be aware that parental controls will stop some pop ups on Roblox, but not all, so we still recommend an appropriate level of supervision for children playing this game, especially younger children.
Here is some more information from NSPCC about keeping children safe when playing Roblox
