UVG - The Urban Vocal Group was formed in February 2008, its aim is to encourage and develop vocal and performance skills in young people whilst enabling them to express themselves in a positive way.

Their objective was to offer a local opportunity for young people to access FREE tuition and ultimately feel part of a unique singing community. The ethos of the group stems from its determination not to be identified solely as a choir hence 'the Urban Vocal Group'.

The repertoire is contemporary as is the singing styles and young people are encouraged to find their own voice within the group.

UVG regularly perform at festivals and events across the south coast including Victorious Festival and provide opportunities for young singers to write and record their own material and to support them as emerging artists.

No better way to celebrate than a short story from CEP member, The Literacy Hubs Pompey Pirates short story collection.

The first piece we wanted to share from our short story collection, ‘A Treasure Chest of Tales’, is Ameila’s story about Dread Ned the pirate and his desire for treasure. We absolutely love the ending!

If you want more imaginative stories like this, why not head to Pigeon Books to pick up your own copy of 'A Treasure Chest of Tales'. All proceeds go to support our work at The Literacy Hubs.

Exciting news! AYM have received strategic funding from Arts Council England's Hub Support Programme to expand our acclaimed Identifying Musical Talent and Potential programme.

Identifying Musical Talent and Potential (ITP) exists to make music education fairer and tackles one of the biggest obstacles to talented young people’s musical progress: many teachers have limited experience of how to identify musical potential in the first place.

This initial new phase of ITP expands the programme and will reach over 1000 teachers by March 2023, exploring the skills they need to spot the next generation of musical talent.
