These open mats just keep getting better!

Around 85 grapplers from clubs all over came through for the Bank Holiday Monday Open Mat and the energy in that room was unreal.

The whole place brought the heat… (thank god for AC)

A proper mix of Gi & NoGi rounds, hard rolls, technical exchanges, new faces, old friends and a room full of people all there for the same reason - to level up and get after it.

That’s what makes these sessions special. No egos. No politics. Just good people and hard training.

Massive respect to everyone who made the trip and helped create such a quality atmosphere.

Rolled through the Xmas break the only way we know how 🦍🎄

Open mats like this are what it’s about - Different gyms, different games, different bodies, everyone leveling each other up. Whether you dropped in for one round or stayed till your grips were cooked, that’s the culture we’re building.

2025 was a year of graft.

We opened our own gym! no shortcuts, no noise, just turning up every day and building something real.

We welcomed new students onto the mats and focused on what actually matters: developing them properly, giving them the tools, the standards, and the confidence to grow. Watching people evolve each week and buy into the process has been one of the biggest wins of the year.

What’s been created here is a genuine community. Good people, training hard, pushing each other, and setting standards together. That doesn’t happen by accident.

We tested ourselves too. Plenty of competition wins, tough matches and lessons learned. We had events like Collision and Polaris which set targets, really high-level seminars and busy open mats that all raised the level. Every experience added depth and sharpened the room.

Looking ahead to 2026 - expect more of the same, but with intent. A bigger focus on competing, higher standards across the board, and continued growth of the community we’re building. We’ve got clear plans and we’re ready to put them into action.

Thank you to all of you who invested in making the Gorillas grow this year.

Winter Grading 2025 did not disappoint - Back to the old skool Mad Hatters Gradings where limbs are on the line in exchange for belts.

Plenty of laughter in-between (and during) the suffering - Privileged to be part of this room.
