If youโ€™re considering pre-school education for your child in September 2027, the Education Authority (EA) wants you to be aware of a number of changes to the process for applying ๐Ÿ“ข

The aim of the Pre-School Education Programme is to provide one year of high quality, funded pre-school education, for every child whose parents want it.

It isnโ€™t compulsory and parents can apply if they want to, by listing in their order of preference, the pre-school settings to which they would be happy to send their child to.

We have published some information for parents and carers, including key dates, on our website at ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://ow.ly/2z9c50ZX5t5

Further information on the procedure for pre-school admissions will be shared with parents, schools and settings in coming weeks.

๐Ÿ“ข Key dates will also be communicated for applying for Primary One, Year 8 post primary and Senior High School places.

Updates will be published on https://ow.ly/Kn4K50ZX5t4 and on the EAโ€™s social media channels.

The Children are continuing to develop their gross motor skills and coordination outdoors by using a variety of tools and equipment.

When a child asked for โ€˜sticky tapeโ€™, staff added selo-tape dispensers in the Arts area.
A group discussion and demonstration was had on how to keep ourselves safe and others safe from the blade- by continuing on the childs interest this gives the children the ability to develop their Bilateral Coordination, as it teaches them how to use both hands together in a coordinated mannerโ€”one hand pulls the tape while the other hand stabilizes or directs the pull against the blade.
Fabulous work ๐Ÿ‘

Fresh drinking water is always available for the children - what a great way to promote their fine motor skills by pouring water themselves ๐Ÿ˜€

Its lovely to witness each child building on their own friendships and enjoying the reading area
A few children were overheard reading the stories out loud - fantastic memory recall and understanding of how print has a meaning ๐Ÿ“š

It was lovely to welcome our first lot of Pre-Pre children this week, they have all settled in so quickly and are enjoying their Pre-Pre journey.

The children have been exploring a variety of different fruits and veg. They enjoyed using their senses to look, touch, smell and taste new foods, talking about their colours, shapes, textures and flavours. Some children were excited to try something new, while others took their time to explore at their own pace. It was lovely to see the children become more confident and curious as they discovered the new fruit and veg.

Staff asked the Children, i wonder what happens when we add water to our dry ingredients?
Each child showed great interest and observed a physical change in real-time.
They learned how dry, flaky, light oats transform into a sticky, heavy, malleable paste when water is introduced!
All the children was observed naturally exploring and experimenting by using a variety of utensils and different sized bowls to incorporate Maths language, all whilst developing their own sensory experiences
When one child asked for โ€œlots more foodโ€ staff was there to provide more dry ingredients foods - what a beautiful arrange of expressions were shown, when staff added more dry ingredients to enhance their learning interests.

This week we have been practicing our knife skills using a variety of fresh vegetables to begin with..

Firstly, we had a class discussion to learn important safety skills and how to manage risks with close adult supervision.

Staff provided child-safe knives during these activities to ensure safety.

We will continue to add a variety of food items throughout the weeks ahead!!

Learning to use real tools gives the children immense pride and satisfaction

Our Pre-Schoolers have been developing all aspects of physical play outdoors
At Causeway Pre-School we spend most of our time outdoors learning, regardless of the weather ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ

By running, jumping, and climbing this builds large muscle control and spatial awareness.

Climbing and balancing: Each child had the opportunity to develop their own skills by climbing, balancing etc using a wide range of equipmentโ€ฆ

All whilst building on their friendships, playing together, and sharing their own ideas of what games to play - how fabulous to see ๐Ÿฅฐ

Then afterwards a wee rest with our friends to end our fun ๐ŸŒˆ โญ๏ธ

A special thank you to St. Patrick's Primary School, Portrush for always providing their fabulous outdoors area for us to explore and learn โ˜บ๏ธ

Have a great weekend everyone ๐Ÿ‚
