Portree Nursery Ltd The original inspiration for Portree Nursery Ltd. These were on condition that a daycare facility was also provided for children aged 4 months to 8 years.

came from a group of dedicated parents who “fired” by a lack of suitable premises for a playgroup, fund-raised £10,000 for this purpose. Grants were received from Highland Council Development, the Local Enterprise Company and the European Leader Fund to a total of £55,000. y. Portree Nursery Ltd. opened on 4th October 1993 with a playgroup room for 20 children, a communal kitchen, toilets and a daycare room for 6 children. The Daycare opened as an unknown quantity but it soon became evident that there was a greater demand than there were places for this popular, well-used facility. The lack of provision for preschool children with special needs and the ever-growing demand for more daycare places highlighted the need for an extension to the original building. Again, the Board of Directors, staff and parents raised funds and received grants. The extension was opened in August 1996 which enabled us to provide a larger daycare room, a fully-equipped special needs area with teaching and relaxation rooms and a preschool class for 21 children. In August 2003 the Nursery was altered to provide a baby room. is a non-profit making company and is a registered charity.

We are delighted to announce that our waiting list is now open for Baby Room spaces and 2–3 year old spaces.

Please note that we have a limited number of spaces becoming available throughout the year, which will be offered on a first come, first served basis. While we will always do our best to accommodate your requested days, availability may be limited, so we kindly ask that families remain open to some flexibility where possible.

If your child will be five years old on or before 28 February 2027, they are eligible to enrol for Primary 1 in the 2026 to 2027 session.

If you wish to enrol your child for Primary 1, do so during enrolment week.

Enrolment week for Primary 1 pupils is from Monday 26 January to Friday 30 January 2026.

As the local schools are closing at 1pm due to the high winds. Unfortunately we have to close the nursery at 1pm as the school closure impacts our ability to meet our ratios. We ask that all children are collected from nursery by 1pm at the latest to allow our staff to collect their children from school.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

In line with the local schools, we will have a later opening of 10am to allow for staff and families to travel to nursery and preschool safely.
