Today I spoke with a woman who is 39 weeks pregnant.

She’s done the preparation.

She’s created a calm, safe space at home.

The birth pool is up.

Her mindset is strong.

Her baby is happy and well.

And yet… today she feels deflated.

A late diagnosis of ā€œsuspected gestational diabetesā€ has shifted the tone of her care.

Suddenly, conversations have turned to monitoring, timelines, and induction.

The quiet confidence she’d built is now being met with pressure and uncertainty.

This story is not rare.

So many women find themselves here, at the edge of meeting their baby, when plans begin to change and decisions feel urgent.

And here’s the truth we don’t say enough:

✨ You can feel disappointed and still be strong.
✨ You can adjust your plan and stay in control.
✨ You can navigate intervention and have a positive birth experience.

Because birth isn’t just about where or how it happens.

It’s about how you feel within it.

What hasn’t changed for her?

Her breath.
Her mindset.
Her ability to relax, to stay grounded, to trust her body and her baby.
The affirmations she’s practiced.
The calm she’s built.

Those tools don’t disappear when circumstances shift, they become even more important.

Birth asks us to soften… but also to adapt.

If you’re reading this and things aren’t unfolding the way you imagined, know this:

You haven’t failed.
Your body hasn’t failed.
Your birth can still be yours.

However it unfolds šŸ¤

I met some brand new lambs a few days ago šŸ¤

And something about it stayed with me.

Their mum had found a quiet spot, away from everything else… just enough space to feel safe.

She wasn’t being watched. She wasn’t being interrupted. She was simply allowed to get on with it.

And it was a gentle reminder of something we often forget when it comes to human birth.

Environment matters.

Feeling safe, calm, and undisturbed isn’t a luxury, it plays a real role in how we experience labour.

Of course, we’re not sheep. And support, care, and medical help are so important when needed.

But there’s something powerful about creating a space where your body can do what it’s designed to do, without unnecessary interruption.

Birth isn’t just physical. It’s deeply influenced by how safe you feel.

And that can change everything.

New beginnings don’t have to be dramatic to be powerful.

We often think they need to be bold, certain, all-or-nothing…

But sometimes, they’re quiet.

A small step back. A gentle return. A decision to begin again, differently this time.

That’s something I see so often in birth, too.

It isn’t about doing it perfectly. It’s about feeling calm, prepared, and supported as you step into something new.

After some time away, I’m slowly finding my way back into this space šŸ¤

Sharing again. Teaching again.

If you’re here, whether you’re pregnant, planning, or just curious, welcome to instinct birthing šŸ’«

BIRTH TIP šŸ™ - During labour think of each surge (contraction) as a wave, it will rise and it will fall, another one will come along, riding these waves and visualising these waves will help you remain calm and focused.

The word "contraction" makes you coil up, feel tight and restricted, the opposite of how you want to feel during labour.

That moment, the one you've been waiting for, the rush of oxytocin, the rush of power, love and euphoria. No matter how your baby enters this world this moment, that first touch, the first smell, the first sound is the most transformative experience you can have. I would give birth a million times to feel this.

Birth isn't something to be fearful of, it is a completely natural process and one in which you body and baby can navigate with your support and with some planning, preparation and thought.

I can help you prepare you for this experience, I would LOVE to support you in your journey towards birth.

Drop me DM if you would like to chat. 😌
