Thanks to Vikki Howells MS our vision for a world leading planetarium in is still being discussed!
Planetarium could be built in ✨🌌
VIKKI Howells says the building of a national planetarium at Hirwaun would boost the economic regeneration of the valleys.
The Cynon Valley MS told Economy Minister Vaughan Gething at the Senedd about plans by astronomy tourism specialist, Dark Sky Wales, to open a planetarium on the site of the former .
She asked Mr Gething if he agreed that this proposed astronomy facility could provide a significant boost to the tourism economy of the valleys.
Ms Howells said it would build on the success of Zip World at the same site and further enhance the economic regeneration of the Heads of the Valleys.
Mr Gething said dark skies have the capacity to attract people to Wales who wouldn't otherwise come and that they’re an asset for the Welsh Government as well.
He told Ms Howells: “The challenge for us is about protecting dark sky status where it exists.
“I recognise that the former Tower site is already having a significant positive impact as part of our tourist economy.
“Further proposals on that site are things that I'd welcome seeing in more detail.
“I've had the opportunity to enjoy some of what's already available, and I look forward to visiting again with my family in the future.
“I think this is an area where we can have more to add to our already-successful visitor economy here in Wales.”
