As fall, and a new school year, are just around the corner, I wanted to share this reminder about making practice a daily habit.

If you're anything like the families in my studio, in the summer while there may be regular practice, there is also a bit more flexibility with time and schedules. Often more attention to a routine is needed once school is back in session.

When I conducted research with a group of over 100 parents who practiced with their children in 2018, they overwhelmingly said the number one thing that made practice work in their family was being consistent and having a routine.
Getting everything set in place can sometimes feel challenging, but once you have a system down it can make so many things about practice feel easier!

As you're planning your schedule for fall, in addition to when your lesson will take place, it's also wise to plan time each day in your schedule for practice too!

If you have any tips for how this works in your family, please share them below!

The Gala Concert was unforgettable, not only because of the brilliance of the 1300 children involved but also because of their joy at coming together through music.

New recordings of books 1-3 by Hilary Hahn are now available!

I was delighted to be asked to record Suzuki Violin Books 1–3. During the sessions, I thought about the current and future students, their parents and teachers who would hear these recordings. I’m moved to be part of their experiences with the violin. These pieces were played with love and care, and I hope Suzuki violinists will enjoy listening to this music every day.

I love sharing this image from time to time, and some recent conversations remind me just how true it still is.

It’s so easy to compare our worst private moments with someone else’s best moments and feel discouraged.

It’s easy to be in the messy middle and wonder if everything will be ok.

Often only when we look back and reflect we can really see how far we’ve come.

Hang in there parents! Things are really different right now, we all miss some of our usual sources of motivation this summer, and we’re all in this together 🎶🌟🙌🏼
