Today we’ve been celebrating our Sixth Form students as they received their results and discovered where their next steps will take them.
Sixty-five per cent of students are progressing to university this year, with 72 per cent of those successfully securing their firm-choice destination and a further 19 per cent their insurance choice.
Of those progressing to higher education, 38 per cent have secured places at Russell Group universities – an increase of seven percentage points on last year.
Among the many individual successes are three students progressing to Oxford and Cambridge.
Pippa Marchant achieved an exceptional four A* grades and will study Medicine at the University of Cambridge, while Maisy Thomas will study Philosophy and Theology at the University of Oxford and Lucy Dickinson will take up a place at Oxford to study English Language and Literature.
Twenty-four students are progressing directly into employment this year, with their destinations being as ambitious and varied as the young people themselves.
Will Greenslade will continue Poole High School’s relationship with PKF-Francis Clark through an AAT apprenticeship, while Ben Le Brocq is awaiting final confirmation of an exciting opportunity with British Airways to pursue his ambition of becoming a pilot. Jenny Shute has also secured a role as a police constable with Dorset Police.
Mrs Stillman, deputy headteacher, said: "At Poole High School, we believe that success at Sixth Form is about far more than results alone.
It is about ensuring every young person leaves us with the knowledge, skills, confidence and opportunities to choose the next step that is right for them – whether that means university, an apprenticeship, employment, specialist training or another pathway entirely.
We are immensely proud of every student celebrating today.”

Today we said our official goodbye to our Year 11 students with a final assembly led by Mr Oxenham, Mrs Daniels, Mr Allard and Mr Melvyn-Smith.
Afterwards, it was time for one of the best traditions... school shirts covered in messages from friends and teachers, followed by a well-earned ice cream in the sunshine.
Thank you for the memories and everything you've brought to Poole High School over the last five years.
Good luck with whatever comes next. 💙

Poole High School closed Thursday, 25th June.
This decision has been made because the Met Office has changed the alert for the area from amber and issued a red heat health alert for extreme heat today and Thursday – a red alert indicates a significant risk to life for even the healthy population. More information can be found here.

Temperatures are expected to reach exceptionally high levels, and guidance highlights that these conditions may pose a risk to all individuals, not just those who are more vulnerable.
The school will be closed on Thursday 25th June, in line with the period of highest risk identified in the weather warning.
Please note that at this time we intend the school to be open as usual on Friday 26th June.
Any visits or events scheduled for Thursday should be assumed to be cancelled.
