Our ‘communication Box’ was made by the Forest School children and carefully painted using a natural dye created from Rhododendron flowers. This special box reflects the children’s creativity, teamwork, and connection with the natural materials they explore during Forest School.

Today, we have been learning about Van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers painting. The children created some beautiful representations of the painting in their own work. While painting and looking closely at details, we used the vocabulary “straight” and “curved” to describe the stems.
We also explored further sunflower art. A large sunflower drawing was coloured in by a group of children working as a team, sharing mark-making tools and respecting each other’s space. Sunflower seeds were then sprinkled onto the drawing, and the children were challenged to use a brush to move the seeds into the centre of the flower, helping to develop their fine motor skills.

This afternoon, a child discovered a worm and observed that it was forming shapes resembling letters on her hand as it wriggled. This prompted us to identify the letters we were seeing and articulate their corresponding phonetic sounds. It was a wonderful example of active learning unfolding in real time.

On Thursday morning, we discovered that the buggy wheels needed inflating, and several of the children eagerly came outside to help.
One child noticed the numbers on the pump dial and commented that they resembled a clock. This sparked a meaningful discussion about tyre pressure, the purpose of the numbers on the dial, and how air is measured within the tyres.
The children took turns attaching the pump to the tyre and operating the controls. We then extended the learning experience by inflating a staff members car tyres, allowing the children to observe how the pressure reading on the dial increased as more air was added. They carefully watched the numbers rise and pressed the button to stop the pump once the dial reached 40.
This activity provided valuable in-the-moment learning opportunities, supporting the children’s understanding of how numbers can be used in practical, real-life situations beyond simply telling the time.

A moment captured when one of ourJellybeans revisited her exploration of shadows when she noticed her shadow as she lay across the tyres. -- making links to, and embedding her past learning.

Some fascinating to watch, evolving play in the garden today.........started out as filling a box with soil, which then moved on to adding water to make clay. Lily had the idea to collect seeds to plant in the clay. Later it was turned into mud and used to make mud pies which Layla placed in a wheel barrow to transport around the garden --- imagination, thinking of ideas, testing ideas, changing strategy as needed, attention to details, sharing resources and ideas, collaborative learning, turn taking in conversations, mathematical thinking judging quantity and space.... to name a few of the learning experiences being presented in this activity today.

The raindrops children have been talking about the sunshine, with our vocabulary focus including the words “sun,” “yellow,” “bright,” “circle,” and “painting.”
The children enjoyed creating their own representations of the sun alongside their peers. They practised sharing resources, taking turns, and developing their fine motor and early drawing skills.
