Some news 🍄

I am sad to say that at the end of this term, I will be pressing pause on The Log Circle Forest School. 💚

I’m so sorry for the short notice but this has been a very recent decision. I’m aware that some of you will have been planning around sessions continuing into next term, and that some families are expecting our August holiday clubs to go ahead. and I want to make sure everyone hears it from me directly rather than just noticing things going quiet.

Running a small, independent forest school, as a sole trader, is something I've poured everything into, for almost 3 years, and this isn't a decision I have come to lightly. The Log Circle has always been more than a business to me, and it has absolutely never been about making money;

It's been about hammocks under trees, muddy faces and fire smoke, It’s been about children in awe of the natural world and those who surprised themselves with what they could do. It's been about parents who trusted me to hand tools to little ones and those who rediscovered their own childhoods in the woods. It's been the kind of quiet magic that happens when you get out of the way and let everyone just ‘be’ in the woods. 🌳

Every step of the way I have gained enormous satisfaction from doing things the way I believe in; with genuine child-led practice, nurturing genuine respect for nature and building an inclusive and welcoming community. Along the way I have had the privilege of working alongside some amazing practitioners and getting to know the most wonderful children and families🥰

The reality is that the pressures of running this kind of provision, in a world where families (including mine) are stretched and small businesses are competing hard, have become too much to sustain for me right now. I've reached a point where I need to stop, breathe, and look after myself and my family for a bit.

I'm so grateful to every single family and individual who has sat in our log circle, helped around the site, told your friends about us and brought yourselves and your young ones outside in ALL weathers! You have made it the wonderful community it now is. 🙏

Sessions will continue until the end of term so existing bookings will not change. Beyond that is still uncertain while we consider our options. If you currently hold a voucher or discount code for a future booking, or if you have any questions, please drop me a message and I'll make sure everything is sorted properly.

Thank you for being part of the magic ✨

Wild wishes,

Tammy Tawny Owl🦉 xx

Part of being in a forest school community is celebrating special events together, like this 3rd birthday today! All the children helped to make a special nettle and lemon cake for him, which we baked on the fire and enjoyed for our snack!

The sense of community was tangible this morning; with adults and children alike helping each other, working on the site, welcoming new members, chatting and playing, and just enjoying being together for a while!💚

Today was mainly about the worms and the snails, the chilling out and the whittling!

It rained in the morning and things (and people) got wet; it didn’t matter one bit and we got to listen to the gorgeous sound on the tarp while we ate our snack💧

The afternoon kids played sardines, whittled sticks and LOVED the hammocks today!

What does ‘child-led’ really mean?

This Wild Tot spent much of the session painting the trees using an old brush and a pot filled with water.

No one suggested it to him. No one ‘helped’ him. No one changed it into something else.

He came and asked for help to find a paintbrush. He then chose the right pot from the mud kitchen and filled it himself, before carrying it to the first tree with focused determination. He carried on painting until he was satisfied it was done.

That’s creativity, persistence, communication, focus …or it’s just a child who had something he needed to do, and so he did it. Which is what it’s all about.
