Before: set up and ready to explore ๐Ÿฆ•

After: very well played with!

This was our dinosaur tuff tray in action this week, and honestly, the "after" photo tells you everything about the kind of morning our little ones had. Digging, roaring, rock-hopping across the foil river, relocating every dinosaur at least three times... real imaginative play in motion.

It might look like chaos to the untrained eye, but there's a lot happening here: hand strength from digging and carrying, storytelling as they create little dino adventures, and problem-solving as they figure out how their dinosaur gets from the sand to the grass.

Swipe through to see the full transformation. Which stage do you love more, the calm before or the glorious after?

"Is it normal that she's crying every morning, even though she was fine in her old room?"

Yes. And here's why it happens, even with the most settled kids.

A transition to a new room can bring separation struggles back, even for children who've never had an issue before. It's not a step backward, it's completely normal.

Our best advice after 25+ years of doing this: keep goodbyes short and sweet. We know it feels counterintuitive when every part of you wants to stay and comfort them, but the longer the goodbye stretches out, the harder it is for them to settle.

Here's what we do instead: we take your little one from you quickly, reassure them with a smile, and get them into the fun. Then 10-15 minutes later, you'll get a message from us letting you know they've settled in (because 99.9% of the time, they have).

Drop-off struggles don't mean something's wrong. They mean your child trusts you enough to show you how they really feel, and that's actually a good thing.

Parents, tell us: how do you handle the hard goodbyes? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Friday's walk turned into something our little ones will talk about for weeks!

A stroll around the hospital grounds for some fresh air turned into a real-life adventure when a kind paramedic stopped to say hello and invited us for a peek inside the ambulance. Lights, buttons, and even a go in the driver's seat, it doesn't get much better than that when you're two feet tall.

Moments like these are exactly why we love getting out and about with our Building Blocks babies. Real experiences, new faces, and a little bit of everyday magic.

A huge thank you to the paramedic who made their day (and ours too)!

Tag someone who had a childhood dream of driving an ambulance!

We've got very limited spaces left. If you'd love your little one to be part of days like this, give us a call on 01443 443735 or email [email protected] to book a tour.

We asked a few of our little ones what they love most about their day, and the answers did not disappoint.

From potato waffles being the highlight of someone's afternoon, to staff bonds built entirely on a shared love of cake, their honest, cheeky personalities came through loud and clear.

Moments like these are exactly why we love what we do. Getting to know each child as an individual, cheeky answers and all.

What would your little one say if you asked them the same question? Tell us in the comments, we'd love to hear it ๐Ÿ‘‡

Paper plate + tissue paper + googly eyes = one very sparkly jellyfish ๐Ÿชผ

Our little artists have been diving into an under the sea theme this week, and honestly? These jellyfish might be our favourite creations yet. Every single one turned out completely different, because every child brought their own ideas to the table (literally).

But while it looks like just a fun craft afternoon, there's a lot more happening under the surface. Ripping and scrunching tissue paper builds fine motor skills. Painting and gluing works on hand-eye coordination. And sitting with a project until it's finished? That's concentration and patience in action.

This is what play-based learning looks like at Building Blocks. Every activity has a purpose, even the messy, glittery ones.

Which jellyfish is your favourite? Let us know in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡

A week in the life at Building Blocks looks a little different every day, and that's exactly the point.

From outdoor easels and paint by hand to diggers in the mulch, fresh air fun and quiet indoor play, every activity is chosen with a purpose. Painting builds fine motor skills and creativity. Digging and pushing trucks develops coordination and strength. Getting outdoors supports confidence and physical development. Even quiet indoor moments help little ones explore textures and use their imagination.

It's not just play, it's how our children grow, learn and discover who they are, one day at a time.

Touring nurseries and not sure what to actually look for? ๐Ÿ‘€

One of our team, Kaylie, shared the tip we always come back to: watch the children, not just the room.

Are they happy? Are staff genuinely interacting and engaging with them, even with visitors in the building? That's the real tell. Children don't perform for an audience - if they're relaxed and happy when strangers are walking through, that's exactly how they are every other day too.

It's a small thing to watch for on a visit, but it tells you everything about the day-to-day environment your child would actually be in.

Booking a visit soon? Keep this in mind while you're walking round ๐Ÿ’›

Swipe through and you'll see it: play isn't just fun here, it's purposeful. ๐ŸŒŸ

Every splash, wobble, and paint-covered finger is doing something behind the scenes:

๐Ÿ’ง Water Play - pouring and splashing builds hand-eye coordination
๐Ÿชต Walk the Plank - balancing on the beam strengthens gross motor skills and core confidence
๐ŸŽจ Paint Parties - mixing colours and textures teaches cause and effect

We build our days around the Foundation Phase, but honestly, the best part is watching each of these moments click for a child in real time.

Want to see it for yourself? Get in touch, we'd love to show you around and talk through how we support your little one's development from day one.

Confidence isn't something children are born with, it's something they build. One small moment at a time.

Trying a new activity for the first time. Sharing a toy without being asked. Working out a tricky problem with a friend. Being seen and celebrated for their effort, not just the result.

These are the building blocks (pun very much intended) of a confident, happy learner. And they happen every single day here, in the everyday moments that might look like "just play" but are actually little steps toward big self-belief.

We're so proud of our Little Discoverers and Big Adventurers for the way they show up, try, and grow with each other every day.

We've got very limited availability for places at our nursery near Pontyclun. If you'd love your child to be part of our little family, get in touch and book a tour today.

Is my baby going to nap on their schedule, or the nursery's?

It's one of the biggest worries for parents moving from home to nursery care, so here's how we do it at Building Blocks: every baby keeps their own routine.

Younger ones often have two sleeps a day (morning and afternoon), just like they would at home, while our older children settle into one nap after lunch as they grow. No forcing a schedule that doesn't fit them yet.

Feeding follows the same principle. Bottles are prepared fresh in our dedicated milk kitchen and given by a member of staff in our cozy feeding chair, right when your little one is due, not when it's convenient for us.

It's a small thing that makes a big difference: your baby's routine doesn't get lost just because they're not home. It comes with them. ๐Ÿ’›
