Well we have had some strange requests at the vans before but this is the first time we have ever been asked for a carrier bag to put ice creams in.

Customer: "How much for a cone with a Flake?"
Me: "£2.50."
Customer: "Will you do it for £2?"

🤔

For that £2.50, you're not just paying for an ice cream...

You're paying for:

✅ The ice cream van
✅ The diesel
✅ The vehicle insurance
✅ The business insurance
✅ The freezer running all day
✅ The ice cream, Flakes, cones and toppings
✅ The card machine fees
✅ The stock that keeps going up in price
✅ The food hygiene standards
✅ The tax bill
✅ The accountant
✅ The phone bill
✅ The fuel driving around hoping the weather plays ball
✅ The maintenance when the van breaks down (and it does break down!)
✅ The paperwork nobody ever sees
✅ The long days in the heat
✅ The quiet days when it rains and hardly anyone comes out
✅ The endless effort of keeping a small family business going

And after all that...

Someone wants to knock 50p off because 'back in their day...' 🫠

The funny part?

People will happily spend £5 or £6 on a coffee without thinking twice, or £4 or £5 for the same ice cream at the park or at the seaside

But somehow £2.50 for an ice cream served to your doorstep is "too expensive."

We're not trying to get rich. We're just trying to keep the van on the road, the freezer cold and put smiles on people's faces.

If you can negotiate cheaper diesel, insurance, stock prices and HMRC bills for us, we'd genuinely love to know how! 😅

The vals ices team would like to wish our very own Callie Pinder a fantastic evening at her prom. She's swapped her smock and pulling ice creams for the evening and put on a beautiful dress to arrive at her school leavers prom in the first ice cream van she officially worked on after training.

Big thank you to Emley Moor Motor and Steam Transport for allowing us to attend again and for been great hosts. From Val (old lass) and all the team it was a great weekend we loved every minute and well done to Alan Hartley for getting some work out of Leigh this weekend its more than we can do.
