Due to planned roadworks taking place on the date of our original Grandparents Stay & Play session, we have had to rearrange the event.

🌾📚 Another busy week at The Cabin! 🐄🚜
We’ve had lots of fun learning through play this week, with our activities linking beautifully to our Autumn & Farm theme and our stories Old MacDonald Had a Farm and The Scarecrows’ Wedding.
The children have enjoyed farm-themed small world play, matching animals and using their imaginations, interactive story times with props, and plenty of sensory water play and outdoor exploration.
These experiences help our children to build communication and language, imagination, early literacy, fine motor skills, friendships and confidence — all while having lots of fun!
At The Cabin, stories don’t just happen at story time — we bring them to life throughout the children’s play

🍂🥕 Autumn at The Cabin! 🥕🍂

Today our little chefs made a delicious vegetable stew as part of our Autumn and Farm theme, inspired by our stories and seasonal learning. The children helped to prepare the vegetables, talked about where they grow, explored different textures and smells, and enjoyed tasting their homemade stew with fresh bread.

Cooking together is a wonderful way to develop communication and language, fine motor skills, mathematical thinking (counting and measuring), and encourages children to become confident in trying new foods. It also helps children understand where our food comes from and celebrates the wonderful harvest season.

At The Cabin, we believe the best learning happens through hands-on experiences, creating memories that children can taste, touch, smell and enjoy! 🍁

To help keep everyone healthy, we'd like to let our families know that we currently have two confirmed cases of croup at nursery.

We are taking extra steps to help prevent the spread by increasing cleaning of toys and resources, encouraging good hand hygiene, and ensuring rooms are well ventilated.

We kindly ask that if your child has:
🌡️ A temperature
🤧 A persistent cough
😷 Symptoms of croup or is generally unwell
💊 Requires regular medicine to manage an illness

please keep them at home until they are well enough to return. This helps protect all of our children, especially our youngest and those who may be more vulnerable.

📚 Story Time Adventures Outdoors!

There’s something magical about taking story time outside! Yesterday , our children enjoyed sharing a story together in our local community, using a core communication board, props, and lots of interaction to bring the story to life.

By taking learning beyond the nursery walls, children develop their communication and language skills, build confidence in new environments, and learn that stories can be enjoyed anywhere. The use of props and our core board helped every child join in, make choices, and communicate in their own way, supporting an inclusive learning experience for all.

Outdoor story time encourages children to:

🌟 Strengthen listening and attention skills

🌿 Our Environment, Ready for a Day of Learning Through Play! 🌿

At The Cabin, we carefully prepare our environment each day to spark children's curiosity, imagination and independence.

Today our mud kitchen is ready with natural materials, water, soil, herbs and real kitchen utensils, inviting children to mix, pour, stir, investigate and create their own wonderful recipes. 🍂🥣

An enabling environment encourages children to:

🪣 Build confidence and independence
💬 Extend communication and language through shared play
🤝 Learn alongside friends by taking turns and solving problems together
