Creating colourful shadows at Tavistock π
Our Nook children have been making the most of the glorious weather by creating their very own ice cream suncatchers!
They explored different colours and textures as they glued and stuck pieces of multi-coloured tissue paper onto their cardboard ice cream shapes.
Once their creations were finished, the children placed them on the window and discovered what happened when the sunlight shone through. They were fascinated by the colourful shadows and enjoyed watching the light change their creations.
π‘Try at home:
Why not make your own simple suncatcher using coloured tissue paper or cellophane? Place it near a sunny window and see what colours and shadows you can spot!

iStep into Schoolπ
Simple routines at home can make all the difference:
π Laying out clothes the night before.
π Using a visual timetable for morning routines.
π Encouraging children to do things independently where possible.
π§₯ Practising putting on coats and shoes.
βοΈ Allowing plenty of time for calm, unhurried mornings.
Children thrive when they know what to expect. Predictable routines help build confidence and create a positive start to each day.

Welcome to Tavistock, Bubbles, Pebbles, Turbo, Socks, Shelly, Gary and Ulthred! π
This week, the children in Tavistock Preschool and The Retreat were very excited to welcome seven baby African Land Snails to their new home!
The children took part in a ballot to choose their names, with some brilliant names being put forward. After voting, we welcomed Bubbles, Pebbles, Turbo, Socks, Shelly, Gary and Ulthred!
During circle time, we talked about what our new visitors eat, how we can care for them and what they need to stay happy and healthy in their home.
The children were fascinated to discover that, right now, our tiny snails are only about the size of a thumbnail!
We can't wait to watch them grow and learn more about these fascinating little creatures along the way.

β¨ Be ready to secure a place.
You simply need to know that you'd like to explore your options.

Celebrating Our Continued Commitment to Communication and Early Mathematics π
Last year, Sarah worked alongside her team to achieve the Communication Friendly Setting accreditation for Tavistock, recognising the nurseryβs commitment to supporting childrenβs communication and language development.
This year, we are delighted that Sarah and Sophie are taking part in the Maths Champions accreditation!
As Maths Champions, Sarah and Sophie will support their team to develop their knowledge, understanding and practice in relation to early years mathematics. Their role will help build staff confidence in supporting and teaching children mathematical concepts, while developing an enabling environment where children can enjoy high-quality maths experiences throughout the day.
Maths Champions is an exciting 12-month training programme designed to give early years practitioners a deeper understanding of how young children learn mathematics and how we can support them to develop important mathematical skills through everyday experiences and play.
Research shows that childrenβs mathematical learning in the early years can have a significant impact throughout their lives. Early maths helps children make sense of the world, interpret situations and solve problems, with early mathematical skills strongly linked to later achievement in primary and secondary school.
So far, Sarah and Sophie have completed training in:
Developing Mathematical Confidence in the Early Years: The Big Ideas of Number Sense, Developing Mathematical Thinking: Shape, Space, Measure and Pattern and Coaching as an Educational Lead
We are incredibly proud of Sarah and Sophie for taking on this opportunity and continuing to develop their own knowledge while supporting the wider team.
We have also attached a Maths Champions poster for parents, which provides more information about the programme. Further information and useful resources will be shared with families throughout the year as they continue their 12-month accreditation journey.
A big well done to Sarah and Sophie! We look forward to seeing how their learning continues to enhance the mathematical experiences we provide for our children. π

iStep into School π
One of the greatest gifts we can give children before they start school is a love of books and stories.
Why not try:
π Finding a cosy spot to read together.
π Letting your child turn the pages.
π Using different voices for characters.
π¬ Talking about the pictures and asking questions.
π Making story time part of your daily routine.
The stories they hear today help shape the confident learners they'll become tomorrow. β¨

π As we come to the end of another wonderful graduation season...
Over the past few weeks, we've had the privilege of celebrating our incredible graduates across Tavistock Day Nursery and Frogmore Montessori.
Watching the children share memories with their friends and celebrate everything they've achieved has been a wonderful reminder of just how much they have grown during their time with us.
To all of our families, thank you for allowing us to be part of such an important chapter in your children's lives. It has been a privilege to watch them learn, grow in confidence and create friendships that we hope they'll always remember.
To our Class of 2026 across all of our nurseries, we are so proud of every single one of you. We hope you enjoy a fantastic summer making memories with your families before your next exciting adventure begins.
Congratulations, we'll always be cheering you on.
