Employee of the Month β
A huge congratulations to Poppi, our Woolwell Employee of the Month!
Poppi is an incredibly valued member of our team who consistently goes above and beyond in every room she works in. She brings enthusiasm, positivity and dedication to everything she does, and her caring and supportive nature shines through each day.
The children absolutely adore Poppi and the fun, nurturing relationships she builds with them. She is always willing to help, supports her colleagues wherever needed, and plays an important role in creating the warm and welcoming environment that makes our nursery so special.
Her hard work, commitment and positive attitude never go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful to have her as part of the Woolwell team.
Thank you for everything you do, Poppi, and congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! π

πΎπ This Week in the Nest, at Woolwell Day Nursery & Pre-School ππΎ
Our little learners have been exploring the wonderful world of animals while following their growing interest in stories! This week, we enjoyed reading Dear Zoo together and talked about the different animals that appeared in the story and the sounds they make.
The children loved joining in with the animal noises, sharing their favourite animals, and learning about the different creatures they discovered throughout the story. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they participated in discussions and enthusiastically copied the animal sounds! π¦π΅ππ
π‘ Try This at Home!
Create your own animal sound game! Look at pictures of animals in a book or online and take turns making the animal sounds. Can your child guess which animal you are pretending to be? This is a fun way to develop language skills, listening, and imagination.
π Would you like to see our nurturing learning environment in action?
We'd love to welcome you for a tour and show you how we support childrenβs learning through play, stories, and exploration. Get in touch to book a visit and discover what makes our nursery so special!

Houndiscombe Road Day Nursery and Pre-School β
The children in Pre-School have been developing their teamwork and cooperation skills through construction play.
Recently, two children worked together to create an impressive house using Magna-Tiles, combining pieces from their own sets to bring their ideas to life. As they built, they shared resources, took turns and worked together to decide which shapes and tiles would work best for their design.
The children showed great patience and perseverance throughout the activity, listening to one another's ideas and solving problems together as their structure began to take shape.
These experiences help to support communication, collaboration and critical thinking, while encouraging children to build positive relationships and confidence when working as part of a team.
It was wonderful to see the children so engaged in the activity and taking such pride in their finished creation.
π© If your child is due to start Pre-School this September, we'd love to welcome you for a personal tour. Contact [email protected] to find out more.

Plymstock Day Nursery and Pre-School πΏ
The babies have been enjoying exploring our sensory gloop jungle through play and discovery.
The children showed lots of curiosity as they grasped and investigated the small world resources, using them to explore the green sensory gloop. They enjoyed feeling the different textures, moving the objects around and discovering how they could interact with the environment in their own way.
These experiences help to support fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and sensory exploration, while encouraging children to build confidence through play.
It was lovely to watch the babies so engaged as they explored, investigated and made their own discoveries throughout the activity.
π‘Try at home: Create a simple sensory treasure basket using safe household items with different textures, such as a wooden spoon, soft fabric, a sponge or a silicone brush. Encourage your baby to touch, grasp and explore each item, talking about how it feels as they play.

This is not just another year, this is the preschool year π
It is a chapter filled with discovery, friendship, confidence, and adventure. It is the year when personalities shine, curiosity leads the way, and children begin to see themselves as capable, independent learners.
In our preschool room, every moment has meaning. From sensory play and storytelling to outdoor exploration and early independence, our team carefully nurtures each childβs interests and helps them take their next steps with confidence.
If your child is starting preschool this September, we would love to show you where the adventure begins.

Fruit tasting fun in our baby room π
Our babies at Frogmore Montessori enjoyed exploring a variety of different fruits, including pineapple, watermelon, mango, apple, orange and banana.
There were lots of opportunities to investigate new tastes, textures, colours and smells as the children explored each fruit at their own pace. It was lovely to watch their reactions as they discovered favourites and experienced something new.
These sensory experiences help to support curiosity, confidence and early communication as children learn about the world around them through their senses.
π‘Try at home:
Offer your child a selection of different fruits and talk about their colours, textures and tastes together. You might even discover a new favourite!

Woolwell Day Nursery and Pre-School π
We were delighted to welcome our local librarian to the nursery today for another wonderful visit.
The children enjoyed listening to a selection of engaging stories in each of the rooms before joining in with a fun and interactive nursery rhyme session. Familiar favourites such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes had everyone singing, moving and joining in with enthusiasm.
These experiences help to support communication, listening skills and language development, while encouraging a lifelong love of books, stories and music.
It was lovely to see the children so engaged throughout the visit, confidently joining in with the actions, rhymes and songs alongside their friends. A big thank you to Plymouth Libraries for another fantastic visit. We always enjoy welcoming you to our nursery, and we look forward to seeing you again in September!

π‘πΏ Outdoor Learning & Creative Conversations at Woolwell Day Nursery & Pre-School πΏπ‘
The Atelier Room has really enjoyed bringing classroom activities outdoors, creating exciting new opportunities for the children to explore, imagine, and learn together in a different environment.
The children have shown a wonderful interest in the block play area, where they have been enthusiastically designing and building their own houses. Through their collaborative play, they engaged in meaningful conversations about the different types of homes they live in and shared special details about their families.
These discussions helped the children develop their communication skills, build confidence in expressing their ideas, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of each otherβs unique family experiences and backgrounds. π
π Try This at Home Activity:
Why not encourage your child to become a little architect at home? Using building blocks, cardboard boxes, cushions, or recycled materials, invite them to create their own house or dream home. Talk together about who lives there, what makes it special, and the different rooms inside. This is a lovely way to support creativity, language development, and family conversations. β¨
