Exploring Autumn, Through Leaf Stamping at Frogmore Montessori 🍂

Our babies enjoyed an autumnal leaf stamping activity.

They had lots of fun exploring the different colours, shapes and textures of the leaves as they created their own artwork.

The babies enjoyed using the leaves to make prints in the paint, while some also couldn’t resist getting their hands involved!

It was a lovely sensory experience, giving the babies the chance to explore autumn through touch, colour and creativity.

🏡Try at home:
Next time you’re out for an autumn walk, collect a few fallen leaves together. Talk about their colours, shapes and textures, then use them to make simple prints with washable paint. You could even let your little one explore the paint with their hands too!

Explore Together: Nature Weaving 🌿

Leaves, grasses, flowers and other fallen finds can all become part of a nature weaving.

Collect a few treasures outdoors, then weave them between pieces of string to build your own arrangement.

There's no right way for it to look, so children can choose what to include and where everything goes.

Take it along on your next walk and see what new finds you can add.

Sensory play at Plymstock ✨

Our wonderful team have created sensory bags for our babies to explore!

The babies enjoyed touching, squishing and exploring the different textures, while our practitioners modelled language around the different colours they could see.

It was a lovely opportunity for the babies to explore at their own pace while enjoying lots of sensory experiences and new words together.

Incy Wincy Spider sing-a- long at Houndiscombe Road 🕷️

The children in our Nook have been enjoying the nursery rhyme Incy Wincy Spider recently, so we followed their interest and created our very own Incy Wincy sensory tray!

The children enjoyed exploring the different textures while playing together and introducing new words such as “spider” and “rain”.

It was a lovely opportunity to build on something the children already enjoy and turn it into a fun shared experience.

Snow at Frogmore Montessori❄

The Children in our Academy class enjoyed exploring snow through sensory play.

They talked about how cold it felt and shared their ideas about the texture as they explored it together.

The conversation then moved on to animals and where they live. One child confidently told us that animals “definitely eat chicken nuggets for dinner!” while another replied, “No, it’s sausages!”

Joana explained that some animals eat fish, to which both children quickly responded, “Oh yuck!”

We love seeing where the children’s conversations and imaginations take them, with plenty of opportunities to share ideas, listen to others and learn new things together.

🏡Try at home:
Choose a few of your child’s favourite animals and talk about where they live and what they might eat. You could even draw some animals and their favourite foods together!

🍂 Exploring Nature in The Studio

Within The Studio at Woolwell Day Nursery and Pre-School, the children have enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment, collecting leaves, sticks and other natural materials to create their own artwork.

As they explored, the children also enjoyed talking about what they could see around them and sharing their observations with each other, noticing different colours, textures and natural treasures along the way.

Explore Together: Leaf Suncatcher 🍂

Autumn leaves come in so many colours, shapes and patterns — perfect for a simple suncatcher.

Collect a few favourites on your next walk, then bring them home to create something you can hang by the window. As the daylight changes, take another look together and see which colours and details catch your eye.

A lovely way to give new life to the treasures you find along the way.

✨ From Circus Inspiration to Something New!

A conversation about a trip to the circus sparked a brilliant idea in Pre-School at Frogmore Montessori Day Nursery.

One child was telling their friends about the glittery clothes they'd seen at the circus and explained that they wanted to make some glittery clothes of their own. Another child quickly replied, “I know how to do that, come on!” and the adventure began!

Rather than starting with something new, the children searched for old clothes they could repurpose, gathering glue, glitter, paint and anything else they thought could help transform them into their creations.

There was lots of discussion and teamwork as they planned what they wanted to do, chose their materials and gave the old clothing a completely new look. Before long, other children wanted to join in too, and one idea had grown into a shared creative project. ✨

It's also been a lovely opportunity to explore reusing and repurposing, showing the children how something we already have can be transformed and enjoyed in a completely different way rather than simply being thrown away.

🏡 Continue at home:
Before throwing away or replacing something old, see if you can give it another purpose together. An old T-shirt could become a dressing-up costume, a cardboard box could become almost anything, and leftover craft materials can be saved for your next creation

Hello, autumn. 🍂

A new season brings so much for your child to notice. Leaves beginning to change, cooler mornings, crunchy walks, conkers appearing under the trees and darker evenings drawing in.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing simple ways to make the most of the season together, using everyday and natural materials to explore, create and discover.

Here's to muddy wellies, pockets full of leaves and plenty of autumn adventures ahead.

Frogmore Montessori Day Nursery and Pre-School☁️

Our babies have been exploring playdough, with lots of different tools to investigate and experiment with.

There was plenty of pinching, squishing and pressing as little hands explored the soft texture and discovered how the playdough changed as they moved and manipulated it.

A simple sensory experience with lots of opportunities to explore at their own pace.

🏡 Continue at home:
Make your own simple playdough by mixing 2 cups of plain flour, 1 cup of salt, 2 tablespoons of oil and around 1 cup of warm water, adding the water gradually until you have a soft dough. Then it's ready for plenty of squashing, patting and pressing together!

Always supervise little ones closely during play.
