New Year, new you?
Look, we all have every intention of sticking to the resolutions we make at this time of year. We wouldn't even state them out loud if they weren't in some way important.
It doesn't mean sticking with them isn't difficult though, of course not.
So why not make a simple nutrition choice this year that you can stick to and could have a big impact? I've been using Huel () for one or two of my daily meals since 2017 and I will continue to do so in 2025.

Why?

Simplicity and convenience, mainly. A fully balanced meal in a few mins.

Cost / Up front cost. The initial outlay seems large but then so would all the coffees/teas/snacks/vices if you paid for them outright at the beginning of the month. When you balance it out, however, Huel dramatically reduces my monthly food expenditure.

Taste. Since 2017, Huel have really upped their game with a much wider and improved range of meals and flavours. I've been with them from the start, almost, and wouldn't eat it if it didn't taste good.

Calorie counting. As the effects of December's indulgences need remedying, being able to keep an eye on the calories I'm taking in is important to me. At 400kcal for 2 scoops of a meal, it's mega simple to keep on track

💪 WEDNESDAY WORKOUT 💪

Absolutely brutal. Loved it.

STRENGTH

2 x 6' EMOMs of Romanian Deadlifts & Banded Good Morning, and then DB Bench Presses & DB Bent Over Rows. 20kg DBs. Hamstring and Grip Death.

It's ok though because conditioning was only....

CONDITIONING

4 x 3' windows w/ 1' Rest

30 x DB Sn**ch 22.5kg
15 x Box Jump Overs 24"
Max Pull Ups

Total Pull Ups: 15/10/10/10

Absolutely brutal. Hard work today. The best.

🏊‍♂️ SUNDAY SWIM 🏊‍♂️

Very rough conditions this morning. Proper "outside comfort zone" stuff.
9C was much colder than I was expecting and 1050m was about as much as was sensible (pushing the bounds of that a little).
However, always nice to be in the water.

Just waiting on .justbeingme to get here for some breakfast now!

💪 FRIDAY FEAR 💪

Average. Well, mildly above average according to Beyond The Whiteboard.

Last recorded this back in 2014 with 7:47. I can only think I did it with Power Cleans before because I was nowhere close to that today.

EARLY MORNING CONDITIONING

50mins Zone 2 on turbo trainer

EVENING STRENGTH

5 x 5 Strict Press (w/ Clean)
50/55/60/63/63kg

EVENING CONDITIONING

Sets of 8 Devils Press with 2 x 22.5kg
Sets of 22/26/26 Front Squats

Decided to go slightly heavier than I might otherwise have done, using 2 x 22.5kg DBs. Pushed hard, legs now feeling it 💪

💪SATURDAY SPRINT 💪

On the road again, this time in the bijou, well-stocked garage gym of my cousin in South Wales.

Storm Bert raging outside and overhead, a lovely little sprint workout inside amidst the noise.

Finished this little beaut in 8:43, a big thanks to programming. Added some strict pull-ups to finish as have annual fitness test coming up shortly.

Now for a beer and hiding behind the sofa while South Africa destroy us in the rugby 🫣

💪 THURSDAY TRAVEL 💪

At the request of a great friend, I checked in to tonight for a Gloucester-based workout session.

I always love a bit of box tourism,.visiting other gyms, seeing the ethos, learning from other coaches.

This is a real friendly gym, bags of energy and everyone seems to really enjoy being there. It definitely felt like the best hour of their day.

CONDITIONING

Kicked it off with the 18' WOD, using 2 x 22.5kg Dumbbells. The "arms only" assault bike was a bitch but needed.

Managed 4 rounds, 15 DB Presses and a KCal on the bike.

STRENGTH

5 Rounds: 100 / 105 / 110 / 115 / 120kg

I could probably have hit 125kg today, just shy of my 130kg 5RM but this surprised me today and I called it a day there.

A huge thanks to for a top hour. I'll definitely come on back.

Very content with tonight's endeavours.

STRENGTH

Heavy 1 Pause Front Squats

70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 105 / 110 / 115kg

Up 5kg from last week.

CONDITIONING

As per pic

I wasn't expecting to get through this at all, thinking I'd end up maybe in the final set of toes to bar. However, I completed the final Toes to Bar with 40 secs to spare and smashed out 8kcal on the Rower to finish. Nicely paced, no rushing, sped up in the final round and really pushed it.

💪 MONDAY MOTOR 💪

A great start to the week. Good strength. Good motor.

STRENGTH

Heavy 2 x Push Jerks (w/ Power Clean)

70 / 75 / 81 / 86 / 91 / 93kg

CONDITIONING

As per pic

15 x Overhead Squats @ 35kg, with 22.5kg DB for Box Step Overs.

Very pleased with the strength element, especially with the Power Clean that initiated it. My best ever 3RM Push Jerk was 92.5kg, a few years ago. To hit 2 x 93kg with a Power Clean was motivating.

I hadn't really expected to get to the Overhead Squats in the workout but I got to them with a minute spare, after a well-paced session. Very happy with that.
