Y7 Geographers in Action
Our newest students have been learning across the site this week, completing field work to evaluate the environmental quality of Hele's entrance area.
They've completed traffic counts, bi-polar surveys and field sketches. I look forward to hearing their suggestions to improve our environment yet further. Well done, Year 7!

Y10 & 12 Art Trip to St Ives
It's always a highlight of the year for our Key Stage 4 and 5 Art students when they get to put down their own pencils and paintbrushes and go and see art in a gallery. This year was no exception and our students enjoyed a great day at the Tate St
Ives on Thursday as part of their GCSE and A Level Art preparations.

Art Teacher Ruby Roberts wrote: Yesterday our year 10 art cohort visited the picturesque town of St Ives. We couldn't have chosen a better day to visit, the sun certainly smiled on us! Year 10 are currently investigating the theme of 'landscape' and have been studying the work of Barbara Hepworth.

First of all, we visited the Tate St Ives where we created studies of the work of visiting artist Aleksandra Kasuba. It was inspirational to see the ways that she had been inspired by natural forms to create both architectural and decorative pieces. We then created studies of the landscape down by the harbour and learned about atmospheric perspective and compositional techniques. To finish the day, we headed to the Barbara Hepworth museum and sculpture garden where we were lucky enough to coincide our visit with a lecture about the artist. We learned about the ways that Hepworth pioneered the art of direct carving and achieved international acclaim, paving the way for women artists in sculpting.

Our students represented the school excellently, we even had members of the public listening in on our place based drawing lessons and getting some tips for their own artwork.

Hele's Kitchen had a visit this week from the Environmental Health and Safety Office. These visits are unannounced and inspect the hygiene levels within food preparation spaces. A small team of really dedicated staff in our kitchen serves hot food 3 times a day every day to over 1500 people and I am delighted toreport that we were awarded a "5" in the inspection, which is the highest possible standard.
A key part of our safeguarding of staff and students is that they eat well and are kept safe and healthy so a big well done and thank you to all the kitchen staff!
