Hi my name is Laura and I am currently studying part-time for a post graduate MClin in Research at Plymouth University whilst also working as a Research Nurse. I live in Cornwall with my three children aged 17, 13 and 10.
I undertook my first degree in Psychology and Human Biology at Plymouth, graduating 16 years ago. I had my eldest child between my second and third year of this course and she went to the onsite nursery so I could continue with my studies. Since then I have gone on to do a degree in nursing via an apprenticeship route. So I have a range of experience combining the parent/student role and the many challenges and triumphs it brings!
In my spare time I enjoy walking my dogs, crafting and eating out!

Hi, I’m Joseph, the treasurer for the year! I am 23 and have just moved to Plymouth for my masters in neuroscience after living and studying in Essex for my bachelors. My partner and I are expecting a little girl in December and wanted to come down for a better life for our little one! I grew up in Ireland so sound a bit strange but I love nature, gardening and trying new things. I’m proud to be a part of the society this year, and hope all you parents are too. I look forward to all the opportunities and other things Plymouth has to offer us and Can’t wait to show off our little baby!

Meet your society secretary
Hi I’m Jody, I am 30. My son is 11. I will be starting a law degree in September, I have already done 1 year at UoP doing a law foundation degree after a long gap from education.
My husband, son, 2 dogs, 2 cats and I have lived in Plymouth for 7 years. I am a Devon born and bred girl, love nothing more than a walk on Dartmoor on sitting on the beach with a book.
Last year felt quite lonely as a mature student and a student with a child, so very excited to hopefully ‘find my people’ in this society. Excited to start this journey we are all embarking on!

I thought it was time I introduce myself properly!
I’m Charlotte, and I’m who’s attempting to set up this society. I’m 21, and about to start my second year at uni studying psychology with criminology, and my son just turned 2 (it’s gone crazy fast as I’m sure you’ll all relate to)
My partner, son and I moved to Plymouth last summer specifically for uni, and have been loving the area ever since, but are struggling to find other students who are also parents, hence why I wanted to set up this society, make our own village to share tips on how to juggle our hectic schedules and help out with what can be a lonely experience for many!
I am currently starting to plan our first event for the academic year, and look forward to meeting you all in person 🥰
