Year 6 have had an incredible start to the year, getting stuck in with their learning across the curriculum.
From exploring electricity, investigating voltage and designing working lighthouses in science, to planning, writing and publishing sequels to 'The Dot' in English.
They've continued to develop their skills on the ukeleles in music, and even cooked and tasted ration recipes as part of history.
We've been so impressed by their hard-work, determination and resilience in everything! What a month!

Year 3 have had a very busy few days! Last week, we baked bread in preparation for making sandwiches in our DT topic this half term. All the children were all incredibly enthusiastic in the lesson however there were definitely mixed reactions towards making the dough...

After a lot of fun and A LOT of mess, the children thoroughly enjoyed sampling their own bread rolls - they were truly scrumptious. Well done Year 3!

At Widewell, we are delighted to be celebrating Harry Potter Book Day this year on Thursday 8th October 2026. 🪄

This is a fantastic event being celebrated nationally giving chance for fans, children and, let’s face it – adults too, the chance to celebrate all of the brilliant Harry Potter stories.📖

In order to mark this fabulous occasion, we are inviting all children to come to school in Harry Potter-related fancy dress on this day, if they choose. We can’t wait to turn our very own school into Hogwarts for a day and see it filled with everything from house elves to giants, and everything in-between. 🏰

Additionally, to commemorate the day, classes will be linking their extra-curricular learning to this year’s theme of Spells and Potions. I know the staff are very excited to immerse themselves in all things Harry Potter and we hope the children are too.🔮

We look forward to seeing all of our magical creatures come to life soon.🧙

This week saw the opening sporting event of the year - 30 children from Key Stage 2 took part in the first Cross Country Event! All the children tried really hard and all looked suitably tired at the end! Well done team, you were a credit to Widewell Primary School. 👟

Yesterday, Year 3 had a fantastic time learning all about sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks and how they are formed.

To bring their learning to life, we used Starburst to represent the sediments and the children put them under a range of processes to demonstrate the formation of the different rocks.
First, they compacted their sediments into layers to create sedimentary rocks. Then, they put their sedimentary rocks under huge amounts of pressure to create metamorphic rocks. Finally, they heated their rocks and cooled them to demonstrate how igneous rocks are formed when magma or lava is cooled.

The children had the best time exploring the 3 different types of rocks and are so excited to learn about fossils next week!

Year 2 had a fantastic time investigating seeds in science on Thursday. Using their observation skills, they carefully studied and drew the seed coat before dissecting the seeds to uncover the food store and a tiny plant embryo hidden within. There were lots of "wow" moments as they discovered just how much life can be packed into something so small!
