πŸ›πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Mandi from Syria πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ›

Last week’s recipe book cooking session with Fotonow (CIC) and Zebra Collective Collective at the Mount Wise Neighbourhood Centre (MWNC) was another delicious success.

We learnt how to make a popular Arab dish called Mandi, which is a traditional meat and rice dish usually cooked in a fire pit. We substituted the fire pit by using charcoal placed into the rice at the end of cooking for a smoky barbecue smell and taste. πŸ”₯

Our Head Chef Rouba also prepared a refreshing yoghurt drink, which was the Syrian equivalent of the popular Turkish drink Ayran made from her own homemade yogurt starter. πŸ₯›

We missed many of our group due to illness and the bad weather, but were delighted to welcome Sazgar our new creche worker!

πŸ™ Thank you to Rouba for sharing such a fantastic recipe, and we all look forward to our next session. πŸ™

Odils Learning Foundation would like to thank The Rank Foundation and Southwest for the funding to enable these sessions to happen.

πŸŒ§οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŒ² A rainy ride in Haldon Forest πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŒ§οΈπŸŒ²

Last week, the Bikespace Off Road Biking group drove out to Haldon Forest and completed the 4 mile Kidden Trail. This is rated as a blue trail, one of two at the forest, which is suitable for intermediate cyclists or mountain bikers with basic off-road riding skills. πŸš΅β€β™€οΈ

The rain was gentle, as was their pace, and everyone enjoyed the peace of the natural environment. 🌿✨

Well done guys πŸ‘

A big thank you to Bikespace CIC for another amazing session.

🌟🐝 Happy Bees Crèche! 🐝🌟

There’s been lots of fun and learning recently at our Happy Bees CrΓ¨che! ✨

The children have been enjoying the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar πŸ›πŸŽ and taking part in fun activities inspired by it.

They’ve also dived into an exciting Under the Sea theme πŸŒŠπŸ β€”discovering ocean creatures and getting creative along the way! 🎨

We love seeing their curiosity grow and their imaginations come to life! πŸ’›

πŸ“Έ Take a look at some of the fun in our photos below!

🌞🍎 A sunny day at the Orchard at Saltram House 🍎🌞

During the half term holidays some of the ODILS staff took a group of families to visit the beautiful apple orchard in the grounds at Saltram House with Community Ranger Kevin.

We enjoyed a shared lunch, followed by fun playing outdoors with bubbles 🫧 and the children enjoyed a ride back to the house on an RV 🚜.

We had a trip around the house and everyone was fascinated by the history πŸ›οΈ.

A huge thank you to Kevin and all the staff at Saltram - National Trust for making the day so enjoyable and for the generous offer of the community pass and entry to the house πŸ™.

We are looking forward to coming back soon 😊

✨ Employment Skills Sessions ✨

Last week, some of Entry 3 and Level 1 ESOL classes learnt about improving their communication skills for job interviews πŸ’¬βœ¨

Sarah, one of the PRSS employment mentors, ran the third and final Employability session this year, where learners explored different forms of communication and practised these in the context of mock interviews πŸ—£οΈπŸ€

🌊🐚 Rockpooling at Mount Batten Beach 🐚🌊

During the half term holidays PRSS clients and their families attended a fantastic Rockpooling session hosted by the lovely Freya from Ocean Conservation Trust πŸ¦€

Everybody had a great time learning how to safely identify and handle sea creatures and enjoyed a good bit of competition! 🐠

We then met the fantastic Jess Hirons who gave us a tour of the Mount Batten tower where everyone enjoyed stunning views of Plymouth Sound and learnt some fascinating facts about Plymouth history. πŸ°πŸŒ…

We then enjoyed a picnic before returning back to the Barbican on the Mount Batten Ferry. 🚀🧺

A big thank you to Stuart Jones at The Outdoor Partnership Plymouth for joining us and the generous grant he donated to ODILS to facilitate this trip and other future activities encouraging our clients to connect with blue and green spaces. πŸ’™πŸŒΏ
