Student’s low-cost device translates languages in front of our eyes 19/06/2026

Translation glasses that cost just £30? Surely not!

Actually, that's exactly what Milya, one of our engineering students, has achieved.

"Engineering isn’t just about machines and technology, it’s about people, and – while I need to work on the size and weight of the glasses before making them fully marketable – I really think it’s something people could benefit from."

Find out more about Milya's story and her amazing final year project: https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/news/students-low-cost-device-translates-languages-in-front-of-our-eyes

“An unforgettable adventure. This trip challenged my skills and offered the opportunity to conduct original research in one of the world’s most complex drylands. It is a defining, hands-on experience.”

Lois is one of our students from the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences who just had an incredible experience in Namibia - exploring the changing biodiversity of the dunes to the impact of mining development on the landscape and local people, not to mention, a BBQ in the middle of the dunes and searching for fluorescent scorpions!
