This month you can find books from across the Library’s collections on the ground floor display for both Pride, and on the reverse, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month. Reduced staff availability means that there will be no Library staff assistance on Saturday 6th June.

The Library will continue to be open for Marjon members, but you will need to use the door code to enter - please check this before visiting – or you can use the QR codes or links on the posters near the Library entrance door to access the code. Please do not hand this code out to people who are not Marjon students or staff.

Access for external users remains the same - 9am to 5pm weekdays only.

You will also need to have your University card, or be able to access your digital Library card, if you if you are intending to borrow resources via the self-service machines.

Staff will be available as usual from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday 7th and 9am to 5pm weekdays, or you can check our help guides for assistance accessing resources: https://bit.ly/MJLHelp or email [email protected]

*5 Key things about the Library Service this Summer*

Please have a read below for details about the Library service over the summer - there's also fuller information on our MyMarjon post: https://bit.ly/4wVYClD

1. The Library will be moving to summer staffed hours on Monday 29th June 2026.

From 29th of June Library staff will be generally available on weekdays only from 9am to 5pm, there will be no weekend staff assistance. There will be a reduction in desk service hours, but please check the signage to direct you to staff if there’s no-one visible!

24/7 access for Marjon members using the keypad door code will continue and for your safety, and that of fellow Library users, you should not hand this code out to non-University students or staff.

Want to borrow books? Make sure you have your University card, or can access your digital Library card - https://bit.ly/MJLDigiCard (link in bio).

If you’re making a special trip to campus over the summer, please do check MyMarjon or Library social media before setting off in case of short notice changes to access.

2. Print Library books will continue to renew as usual – there is no extension to due dates over the summer.

Away from Plymouth for the summer and continuing your current course next year? Return and reissue any books you want to use over the break to reset the renewal amount.

Not going to use your books, or have finished your current course? Return the books as soon as possible!

Library books can be reserved over the summer and you should continue to check your University email account for failed renewal notices.

3. E-Resources are still available!

Check the catalogue: https://library.marjon.ac.uk/ to see if there's E-Book version of a title you’re looking to borrow in print. E-Books have the advantage of not counting towards your borrowing allowance.

Discovery is available to access online journal articles: https://www.marjon.ac.uk/student-life/library/ (link in bio) just remember to select “Full text” using the button above the search results to view items you can access right away.

4. Help and support can be accessed throughout the summer.

The Library help pages on MyMarjon - https://bit.ly/MJLHelp (link in bio) - have full guides on using Library resources. If you have any further questions, staff can be reached at [email protected] and will usually answer within 3 working days.

There’s also information on Study Skills topics, such as academic writing and research, - https://bit.ly/MarjonStudy - and the Study Skills team will still be available throughout the summer, just email them at [email protected].

5. Want to use another University Library? Sign up for SCONUL!

The SCONUL Access Scheme provides University members with access to other University libraries. Fill out the form: https://access.sconul.ac.uk/, be in ‘good stead’ with Marjon Library (no overdue items or outstanding bills!) and check with the library you’d like to visit for their access terms.

Have a great summer, and if you don’t visit during the break we look forward to seeing you in the new academic year!

*Weekend of 23rd & 24th May:
There will be a change to 24 hour access for Marjon members overnight on the 23rd to 24th May, as the upper floors will be closed to users (first and second floors) from 1pm Saturday 23rd May to 12pm Sunday 24th May, this includes access to the PGR hub from the Library.
The ground floor of the Library and Gallery will still be accessible to Marjon members for study space and the self-service machines using the door keypads and code during this time - with a reminder to not give the code out to people who are not Marjon students or staff.

*25th May (Bank Holiday):
On the late May Bank Holiday (25th May) all floors of the Library will be accessible to Marjon members using the door code, but there will be no staff assistance so we are unable to offer access to external visitors. If you're planning to borrow books during our non-staffed hours you must bring your University card with you, or be able to access your digital Library card, as Security staff are unable to assist you with Library-related problems.

If you need help at any time or have any questions you can email: [email protected] with as much information as possible and staff will get back to you as soon as they are able – but the inbox will be unmonitored over the Bank Holiday weekend.

If you're continuing on your current course at next academic year, remember to return and reissue any books you want to take for the summer, to reset the renewal limit.

Books aren't extended for the Summer break, and holds can still be placed, so if you're away from Plymouth we'd recommend returning any books you'd not be able to post back to us if a book was reserved or went overdue.

You should also check for E-Book access as they don't count towards your borrowing limit, can be accessed while you're away and aren't reserved in the same way!

There's more information on our post on MyMarjon: https://bit.ly/4tibHme and also details for students finishing at Marjon this summer!

*Library Lost Property and Lockers*

The Library has a box of lost property that we've not been able to reunite with its owners - this includes a number of returned personal copies of books.

If you think you’ve left something behind in the Library during the past term please speak to staff at the main Library desk, or email a description of the item to [email protected], before 9am on Wednesday 3rd June - anything remaining after 9am on this date will be cleared.

If you’ve been using a locker - either on the Library first floor, or between the Library and 24 hour computer room - please clear the contents by 9am on the 3rd June. Any personal items left in lockers after 9am on the 3rd June will be removed and kept for you to collect by the end of 2nd October 2026.

Any equipment loaned by the Computing Services Department and left in lockers will be returned to them.

If you have any questions about this post, or any other Library service, please email [email protected]
