To help Library staff get ready for the new academic year, the upper floors of the Library will be closed from 9am on the 17th to 9am on the 24th August 2026. This means that there will be no access to book stock or study spaces on floors one and two of the Library, but the ground floor and gallery will remain open 24/7 to Marjon members for self-service and study space access the keypad and code.
There is no access for external visitors during this week.
Access to the postgraduate hub from the Library will be unavailable throughout these dates - please use the west block entrance instead, but there will be no access to the Library through this space.
The closure means that there will be no Library staff support in person, via email, or over the telephone on the 17th to 23rd and there will be a delay to responses if you contact the Library during these dates.
If you need resources during these dates, the Library has a wide range of online material you can access at any time, and help pages with step-by-step guides on how to log in, run searches and access them - https://bit.ly/MJLHelp
There’s also information on Study Skills topics such as academic writing and research on MyMarjon - https://bit.ly/MarjonStudy
These dates have been chosen to minimise disruption, as the Library is quietest during the summer and it is outside of the main resit period, but if you have any questions about the closure, or any other Library service, please email [email protected]

Due to limited Library staff availability for the remainder of this week, the upper floors of the Library will be closed from 4.45pm today (Wednesday 5th August) until 9am on Monday 10th August.
This means that there is no access to upper floor book stock or study spaces during this time, including access to/from the Library through the Research Hub.
The Library Ground Floor and Gallery will continue to be open to Marjon members only for study space and self-service access using the door code - https://bit.ly/MJLOpening (link in bio). For your safety, and that of fellow Library users, you should not hand this code out to people who are not University students or staff.
Any questions can be emailed to [email protected], but please be aware that there may be a delay in response times.
We apologise for the short notice and inconvenience and will update you if any of the above information changes.

The Library is missing all 4 of its Dyson ‘loop’ style fans and would like their safe return as soon as possible - no questions asked!
They are the older, tall, floor-standing model in white and silver (image in post) – all will be missing their remote, as we have kept these separately.
These fans are a shared resource for Library use only. We still have a number of Library users during the summer break, and the fans help keep the popular study spaces cooler during the warmer weather and heat waves we’ve been experiencing. Unfortunately, we do not have the budget to replace them.
If you have one, or more, of these fans please do return them. If you’d like to do so anonymously, the Library continues to be open 24/7 using the door-code after staffed hours – which are currently 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday only.
Thank you for your help and cooperation.

*5 Key things about the Library Service this Summer*
Please have a read below for details about the Library service over the summer - there's also fuller information on our MyMarjon post: https://bit.ly/4wVYClD
1. The Library will be moving to summer staffed hours on Monday 29th June 2026.
From 29th of June Library staff will be generally available on weekdays only from 9am to 5pm, there will be no weekend staff assistance. There will be a reduction in desk service hours, but please check the signage to direct you to staff if there’s no-one visible!
24/7 access for Marjon members using the keypad door code will continue and for your safety, and that of fellow Library users, you should not hand this code out to non-University students or staff.
Want to borrow books? Make sure you have your University card, or can access your digital Library card - https://bit.ly/MJLDigiCard (link in bio).
If you’re making a special trip to campus over the summer, please do check MyMarjon or Library social media before setting off in case of short notice changes to access.
2. Print Library books will continue to renew as usual – there is no extension to due dates over the summer.
Away from Plymouth for the summer and continuing your current course next year? Return and reissue any books you want to use over the break to reset the renewal amount.
Not going to use your books, or have finished your current course? Return the books as soon as possible!
Library books can be reserved over the summer and you should continue to check your University email account for failed renewal notices.
3. E-Resources are still available!
Check the catalogue: https://library.marjon.ac.uk/ to see if there's E-Book version of a title you’re looking to borrow in print. E-Books have the advantage of not counting towards your borrowing allowance.
Discovery is available to access online journal articles: https://www.marjon.ac.uk/student-life/library/ (link in bio) just remember to select “Full text” using the button above the search results to view items you can access right away.
4. Help and support can be accessed throughout the summer.
The Library help pages on MyMarjon - https://bit.ly/MJLHelp (link in bio) - have full guides on using Library resources. If you have any further questions, staff can be reached at [email protected] and will usually answer within 3 working days.
There’s also information on Study Skills topics, such as academic writing and research, - https://bit.ly/MarjonStudy - and the Study Skills team will still be available throughout the summer, just email them at [email protected].
5. Want to use another University Library? Sign up for SCONUL!
The SCONUL Access Scheme provides University members with access to other University libraries. Fill out the form: https://access.sconul.ac.uk/, be in ‘good stead’ with Marjon Library (no overdue items or outstanding bills!) and check with the library you’d like to visit for their access terms.
Have a great summer, and if you don’t visit during the break we look forward to seeing you in the new academic year!
