CELEBRATION time!
Academy students were gassed to return to school during the hols to collect excellent A-level results and prepare for the next stage of their life.
Student achievement reached a record high this year, with 78% of A-level grades awarded at A* to C, representing an impressive 16% increase on last year.
At Lipson, a spectacular 97% have been offered their first choice university, a third of who are off to Russell Group universities in places as far flung as Falmouth to Scotland. Nor is it only university destinations - we have several students who have achieved great apprenticeships that will now set them up for a successful future.
We are proud of everyone who walks through our sorts but special mention to Eri Olugbeminiyi, who achieved 3 A grades; Madison Badock, who achieved A*, A and Distinction*; and Grace Brownbridge and Charodon Berry, who attained A*, and two As.
Students who completed vocational courses included Lacey Hambly, who achieved triple distinction; Birmingham City footballer Lily Felgate, who achieved double Distinction* alongside her playing commitments; Ahyan Ahmed, who secured a Distinction*, and Distinction. The average grade this year was a Distinction.
The outstanding results will help students progress to a wide range of chosen next steps including higher education, training and career opportunities.
Part of the Ted Wragg Trust, Lipson students' school experience is about much more than just academic results and Sixth Formers enjoyed a range of enrichment activities and community initiatives during the year.
They attended university and careers events, including visits to the University of Plymouth and Oxford, where they learned more about university life. Health and Social Care students took part in a specialist showcase, exploring careers in areas including medicine, nursing and physiotherapy, while year 12 students gained hands-on experience of cutting-edge scientific research during a visit to the Plymouth Electron Microscopy Centre.
Students have also taken part in creative and personal development opportunities, including a media production workshop at Arts University Plymouth and the Ted Wragg Trust Health and Wellbeing Conference.
Lipson recently received a highly positive Ofsted report, with inspectors recognising the high standards across the school and praising the strong relationships between staff and students.
The report highlighted the warm and inclusive culture, noting that students are proud to belong to the “Lipson family” and that staff are committed to ensuring every student feels safe, happy and successful.
Tom Goodman, Headteacher at Lipson Co-operative Academy, said: “Congratulations to all of our students on their A-level results and everything they have achieved. They have worked incredibly hard throughout their time in our sixth form, and today is a chance to celebrate their progress and success.
“Alongside their academic achievements, it has been wonderful to see students explore their interests, shape their ambitions and contribute to the wider life of our school community. We are proud of the young people they have become and wish them every success as they take their next steps."
Moira Marder, CEO of the Ted Wragg Trust, said: “Congratulations to every student collecting their A-level and vocational qualification results. Reaching this milestone is a tremendous achievement and one that reflects years of hard work, strong teaching and community support.
