Last week, our Study Programme learners have been working on their craft unit. As well as learning about the benefits of craft activities and the key factors to consider when planning activities for children, they had the opportunity to explore a variety of craft techniques themselves before preparing an activity for our next visit to the local toddler group.
The learners planned and delivered a sensory playdough activity for the children to explore. During our visit they confidently set up and led the session, supporting the children as they engaged in sensory play, creativity, and exploration.
The cinnamon-scented playdough was definitely the most popular choice!
A Huge well done to all of our learners for demonstrating creativity, excellent planning skills, and confidence while working with children in the community.

Today was the first session for our childcare learners at a local parent and toddler group.
Ahead of the session, they carefully planned and created engaging tabletop activities, which they then brought along for the children to enjoy. During the session, they supported the set-up of a fun and stimulating environment, helping to deliver activities that encouraged learning through play.
It was fantastic to see our learners confidently engaging with both children and parents/carers, building communication skills and gaining valuable insight into working within an early years setting.
This ongoing opportunity, running weekly during term time, will continue to provide hands on experience, helping learners develop the practical skills and confidence needed for their future careers in Childcare and early years education.
A brilliant start to what promises to be a fantastic learning journey!

🐝💚Wear it Green Day 2026💚🐝
Mental Health Awareness Week and for us at Skills Group, this conversation matters 365 days of the year. It is very important to us that all our staff and students feel listened to and supported. Some of the team have completed their mental health first aider training with more to follow.
We encourage pausing and getting away from your desk for a wellbeing walk, a cup of tea or a chat. A lot of the time involving cake 🍰 staff are also able to attend the Elfordleigh for a discount where they can use the spa facilities, relax and unwind 🧖♀️
We have designated wellbeing champions who are committed to ensuring our students receive the best support possible throughout their time with us.
For yourself. For someone else. For all of us 🧠
