Friends and colleagues of much-missed University lecturer Dr Claire Chick are raising money in her memory to support nurses of the future by running at Britain’s Ocean City running festival this weekend. Claire was Associate Head of Internationalisation in the University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, and the fund set up in her memory provides student nurses with vital support, to ensure that all students — regardless of background or circumstance — can make the most of their education and go on to make a difference in our communities.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate an inspiring achievement by Tory, her partner and friends, who have raised an amazing £7,500 to date for Huntington’s disease research here at the University of Plymouth by completing the Belfast City Marathon.
As Tory shared:
“At the start of last year my dad was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. Seeing first-hand how this condition affects not only the individual but the entire family made me want to do something meaningful in response.
Running the Belfast City Marathon felt like a real way to challenge myself while raising awareness and funds for a cause that is now very close to home. Training for and completing a marathon isn’t easy, but it’s nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by those living with Huntington’s.
By taking on this challenge, I wanted to contribute, however small that contribution may be to the vital research being done into better treatments and, hopefully one day, a cure. Every donation and bit of support helps push that progress forward and means a great deal to me and my family.”
Please join us in congratulating and Tory and family on this outstanding achievement.
