🎥 BBC Spotlight at Millbay Academy! 🎥

Today we welcomed the BBC into school to speak with our students and Headteacher, Matthew Bisco, about the recently announced social media ban for under‑16s.

Our students and staff shared a wide range of thoughtful, honest opinions, raising important questions such as:

- Questions around how the ban will actually be implemented

- Concerns that young people may immediately look for workarounds and whether that could be harmful

- Reflections on the positive side of social media, such as community, belonging and creativity

- Honest conversations about risks like unrealistic influencer standards, extremist content and cyberbullying

We also spoke about the brilliant things happening here at Millbay, how students can get involved in school life and how we as a community will support families as this new guidance develops.

We’re incredibly proud of our students for engaging in such meaningful, mature conversations and for representing Millbay so confidently on camera.

We are incredibly proud to share that Poppy L in Year 7 has been selected for the Plymouth School Girls Under‑13 Squad! 💙⚽

After two highly competitive trials, with nearly 60 talented girls from across the city taking part, Poppy has earned her place to represent Plymouth. This is a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of her dedication, skill and attitude.

A huge well done, Poppy, the whole Millbay community is cheering you on! 🙌✨

St Luke’s Guiding Lights will be beaming through Plymouth from 6 July! We teamed up with Wild in Art to hold a sensational art trail of more than 40 lighthouse sculptures, each uniquely decorated by a professional artist and generously sponsored by a local business.

Keep an eye out for the Trail App launching soon and plan your summer adventure while helping us raise money for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth.

Today we said our final goodbyes to an unforgettable year group. You joined us in the middle of Covid, met half your teachers through a laptop and still managed to grow and shine. Your journey hasn’t been easy but WOW have you made us SO proud. 🌟

You’ve blossomed into incredible young adults and we cannot wait to see where life takes you next. Don’t forget us and don’t be strangers! Come back one day as inspirational speakers… we’ll save you a spot on stage 😉🎤

🚀 Our Year 8 students had an inspiring day at the Babcock Engineering Festival at Market Hall! 🔧✨

The festival is designed to spark curiosity and excitement through activities, practical learning experiences and real‑world insights from professionals across the engineering industry.

Students explored how engineering shapes the world around us, got up close with cutting‑edge technology, and discovered the incredible opportunities waiting for them in STEM. 🌍🔬💡

A fantastic day of learning and future‑thinking for our young people!
