Another fantastic start to the week in Smeaton class.

Our children have been busy exploring, creating, and learning through play. We have been building towers to 5, making name trains to support early literacy skills, exploring Numicon to develop our understanding of number, and getting creative by making a variety of shapes using playdough.

It's been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, concentration, and teamwork as the children explore these learning opportunities. We can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings!

Year 6 had a very exciting afternoon learning all about magistrates and how a Magistrates’ Court works. The session was delivered by South & West Devon Magistrates, who gave the children a fascinating insight into the different roles within a courtroom.
The children then had the opportunity to put their learning into practice by taking part in a mock court case based around cyberbullying. They took on a range of roles, including magistrates, lawyers, witnesses, the defendant, clerk and usher, as well as a court artist and reporter.
Everyone embraced their role brilliantly, making it a fun, engaging and memorable afternoon of learning!

Smeaton Class thoroughly enjoyed their first Write Dance session this week.

The children loved learning the movements through dance before applying them in our scrimbling session. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and confidence as they explored different marks and patterns.

They were so proud of the marks they made. Write Dance is a fantastic way to prepare our bodies for mark making and early writing while having lots of fun along the way!

Mayflower class are enjoying their music lessons this term. They have learnt new notes on the recorder and revised their musical terminology. We were so impressed this week as they learnt a whole song on the recorder and played together as an ensemble in the sunshine.

Year 2 have been developing their throwing skills and learning how to throw accurately towards a target. We began by practising throwing to a partner, helping us to develop our aim and control.

We then put our creativity to the test by designing our own target games using cones, hoops and beanbags. The children challenged themselves in lots of different ways, including throwing beanbags into spinning hoops, aiming at targets from a distance and using precise throws to balance a beanbag on top of a cone.

It was fantastic to see the children using their imaginations to create so many fun and inventive versions of a target game. They showed great teamwork, creativity and determination throughout the lesson!

The children in Year 3 had their second brass lesson this week and what an improvement- clearly they had been practising at home. Mr Thompson, their teacher introduced them to different musical notations and gave them some homework to try. We are looking forward to seeing and hearing the progress next week!

We’re really pleased to see the concerns around the crossing outside our school being listened to and given the attention they deserve.

The safety and wellbeing of our children and families is always at the heart of what we do, so it is very welcome to see our concerns being raised with those who are able to look at the situation and consider what further measures may be possible.

Thank you to Fred Thomas MP and Cllr John Stephens for taking the time to visit the crossing, listen to the concerns of our school community and see the situation for themselves.

We know how important this is to our children, parents, staff and local residents, and we will continue to work constructively with everyone involved to support safer journeys to and from school.
