Ancient Roman mosaic depicting a lion. 3rd century AD, found in Salakta, Tunisia. Currently located at Salakta Archaeological Museum.
It was discovered in 1958 at a Roman bath establishment. The mosaic pictures the Barbary lion (PanΒthera /eo /eo), a North African subspecies of the African lion which was found in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia and is now considered extinct in the wild.
